Help styling a bedroom

We have a lovely bed and antique chest and mirror but apart from that our new room is bare and a bit sterile. I don’t know which curtains to get and what other touches will make it elegant and homely.

Do you have any photos? If you have antique chest and mirror I would couple that with some Textured Gold Curtains, a fluffy dusky rug, satin pillows in gold possibly few round ones on top, a HAVILL Yellow textured bed throw ( you can get this one from Habitat, a couple a minimalist bed stands in solid wood ( I would have to see the existing setting to pinpoint exactly what style ), I would add a few framed pictures with gold or yellow tones and a mini green tree or plant to stand in the corner. I think pictures would help greatly.

Help with curtains/blinds for a difficult, dorma style bedroom window

Hi Lisa, I completely understand your dilemma, I'm moving house soon and have exactly the same type of window as you. My suggestion would be to have a Voile roller blind, as I know that you said you don't like Voile curtains. This would be a great way of keeping your privacy in the room, whilst still allowing plenty of light into your room. I'd then pair this with Dorma Window Curtain Poles (the would be to the side of the recess rather than within). I've attached images of both of my suggestions below. I also don’t think you can live there while it’s being done. I think you should look into raising the roof then connecting the main house roof to the roof of the kitchen wing. I also don’t think you need to remove what looks like a top end conservatory. But you do need to find a good architect to help discuss what is possible and you need to think about your budget as it’s a big undertaking. For what it’s worth this is what I would do.

Mostly, I would say it looks like the feeling is due to the unbalance. There are two that stand out to me that I would change if I were designing this room. Firstly the top to bottom - the top of the room is very light with nothing there and the top has all the furniture, the flooring and the wall paint - so is darker and heavier. If you are changing the blind, then go for a darker colour that compliments the bottom paint colour. Adding colour on the top of the walls would also help - this can be added with a few nice pieces of art (try Desenio). It can also be done with a few shelves and a new light fitting. Then the second unbalance I can see is that everything is pushed out around the outside of the room. This needs to be balanced a little more for the inside of the room to make it feel more welcoming and inviting. Adding a neutral rug in the middle with a floor cushion or two and then pulling the pieces in a little. Lastly, adding some greenery always helps - maybe a plant or two on the shelves. Personally, I would also add a tall floor-standing plant. They don't only add a feeling or life and vitality but they are proven to reduce the quantities of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and natural toxins (like benzene and formaldehyde), helping you breathe better at night.
