Need help with design ideas for my living/dining room
Comments (16)Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Pattern/interest can also be added in the form of wall art....See MoreNeed help with living room interior.
Comments (7)Certainly agree about loosing the curtains. Either silver venetian blinds, vertical blinds, or plantation shutters would make that area cleaner and tidier. (If you are not overlooked, how about leaving any window coverings at all). As for the feature wall -not sure about the white brick effect, as I feel that there would be too much of the same colour, and it would not stand out as a feature wall. There are many softer shades on the market now, and depending on the remainder of your room, choose a soft shade, either duck egg blue, or soft plum, and use this colour to accessorise in cushions, or a picture in same colour, but something else to bring the items together. With the emulsion, I would use a soft sheen rather than matt, as the soft sheen is easier to clean (I notice you have children), and reflects the light back into the room. Hope some of this helps....See MoreNeed help with designing kitchen/dining/living room open living plan
Comments (10)Thank you for your response. We had plans pretty finalised until we found out that we can keep just that long wall into the large space as it is a load-bearing. There is an opportunity to put a door in though. I am attaching what it looked like with all the walls that we can now remove. We have also been tinkering with ideas which I am adding as well. I added some comments on the plans as well. What we want to have is a dining area with a large table that seats 8-10 people. We want enough space for two people to work and cook in the kitchen. Thus, we were thinking of an island or an L-shape workspace coming out. We'd like to have a utility room to have space for all the cleaning utensils. Washer and Dryer will be upstairs in a separate laundry room. The living room is nothing formal but an area to relax and watch TV. We'd like to have an L-shaped cough in there for a family of four (2 kids under the age of 10)....See Morehi need help with my interiors of my big living room,
Comments (2)I like Carolina's suggestion, that way you have a choice of 'cosy' space but can easily swivel the chairs if you have more guests. I would rethink the lighting too (yes I'm biased!) but something less distracting will help give better balance to the room. "Feature walls" have had their day, but every room needs an anchor point, so something like a huge mirror or piece of artwork is lovely....See MoreOmar Obaid - Original Abstract Paintings
