Wall paint to go with black furniture

Hi, we are about to repaint our house and I am in a dilemma here..we have this huge black cabinet and I am not sure whether to go for light grey or wam neutral colours? We currently have a black leather sofa but we are thinking of getting a new grey sofa? Can you please suggest what colour would look good :) thank you

Hi Susan. Is the carpet staying? And does the room get a lot of natural light? Reason I ask is because this narrows down the colour choices. I had the same problem in our dining room with similar large black furniture. Since this room gets very little in the way of natural daylight I decided to just go with it and painted the walls a deep charcoal with lots of reflective and metallic accents. Hubby thought I was mad...funny how it’s the room we spend the most time in now. With your room my original thought was a deep stone colour or perhaps a putty colour. Laura Ashley’s Sable would have been my second choice if our dining room had a lot of light. If you do decide on grey then I’d wait until you get the sofas first but something with a warm, slightly beige undertone (greige) might work. Get a few testers and paint them on large sheets of paper so you can move them around before deciding. Hope this helps, here’s some inspo:

I have a LOT of black furniture... behind the TV, if you are an indulgent movie and series eater... black all the way. I put it on my wall mid renovation as a trial... and many a cosy night followed. Be careful to not fall asleep too quickly in the comfort.

I have black office furniture too, so coupled that with purple, cream, gold/brass... all the classics really. My sons bedroom is dominated by huge black wardrobes, big tv etc... he wanted RED... so red carpet, and red roman blind it was to be.. with light walls though.... I love the bold carpet, as it brings POW and colour into the room.

And then I have black carcassed units in the kitchen (obsessed much). Thats coupled with slate grey, mint green, all metallics, turquoise, industrial feature... and adding natural wood

Hello decor178, Depends what the rad looks like. I would usually suggest paint the colour of the walls.. If something fantastic and old style like the two I love which are fantastic anywhere.. They have a modern industrial finish which deserves to be shown off.. then I would suggest grey or charcoal but a matt finish rather than gloss. They do though come in a range of finishes.. from chrome to nickel to a copper/brassy finish.. Again it depends on the walls... better to see what you are talking about and the room itself with the furnishings to really get an idea.... .. . :))Or if a box standard plain and boring.. painted as wall will be or add a cover as Brandi suggested- quite plain and then paint as walls are painted.. ..

Hi, This is a beautiful wallpaper choice! Answering your question I wouldn't advice to go with any colour shade from the wallpaper - either grey or green or even gold for the rest of the walls - simply because it will be too obvious. You have beautiful sofa - as I can see from the photos this colour is close to rustic red with an orange hue. What I would choose being you, and what would compliment your whole colour scheme including curtains choice is: https://www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours/sulking-room-pink which will go very well with your wallpaper, curtains, sofa and carpet. You simply need something which will blend together heavy sofa, curtains and elegant wallpaper. I wouldn't also use the colour similar to the colour of your sofa as it will look too heavy. It has to be something, which is light in weight and is connecting elegantly with your wallpaper choice and connect to sofa at the same time. If you leave sofa not connected to the colour of the wall it will look as you left a separate piece of furniture in the room. With the colour choice I sent you as an example your room will look stylish and warm at the same time. You can then add a warm grey wool blanket (hand crafted ideally) and mixed cushions matched to the colour of curtains, also a bit of grey too.

There are some quite respectable copies out there so it might be worth taking a look. There are also artisans out there that still make iron goods in the good old fashioned way. Perhaps Kenrick could help you out with a striking plate and letterbox or at least point you in the right direction. There is also a website called Etsy that sells crafts and antiques etc.
