Feature wall shade - N8

Hi, please could you tell me the shade of the N8 feature wall with the tiger painting on it? it's a gorgeous colour - I think it's got a green tinge to it, hubby thinks it's grey but we both love it!!!

Definitely paint the whole wall aubergine but not including the fireplace. That will create a nice contrast. If you decide on wallpaper only go for plain/textured rather than pattern. Regarding the window treatment, I'd use curtain panels on either side for decorative purposes only to tie the whole look together and use venetian blinds on windows. I wrote a blog about blinds. If you like pattern include it through cushions, rug and decorative accessories such as vase, plant pots etc. Use tall table lamps or floor lamps on either side of the sofa to balance the window area height and use neutral tones on the shade (if patterned ) or rather completely plain. Think about the colour balance. Too much of one colour is too overpowering. Use the 60%-30-30%-10% rule when using pattern and colour. Wow, you have done a great job already with your kitchen. You have had so many great ideas re. the wall there isn't anything on that I could add. To solve the problem of the chairs hitting the wall I would either opt for a huge floor to ceiling mirror which would encourage one and all to be careful when leaving their seat or my preferred option would be to replace the chairs on that side with a bench. I'd cover the bench in either shabby chic cushions or a deer or sheepskin rug for comfort and I'd play with table decor. Get chair covers for the redundant chairs and use them in the bedrooms - one in each corner. Then for formal dinner parties or for when the table is extended you simply remove the covers and add them to the table and you can still use the bench if the table is extended.

Agree with ribeno that the feature wall needs to work with the blue in your dining room. If you are replacing the carpet and you want a rug then I would recommend a wood floor rather than a carpet. Rugs work much better on wood floors. Something like this geometric Harlequin rug would pick out the colours of your sofa and chair and also tone with the blue wall in your dining room.

Thank you everyone, lots of food for thought @honeypoppet - I never knew this design technique existed, I’m worried it would look a bit too funky for my simple house and I think the radiator would get in the way of the beautiful ombré effect @yasminchopin - I never thought to use a piece of art, I thought to put up pictures but actually the art would bring the colours together. The radiator issue, and now that you’ve mentioned it, it really does stick out like a sore thumb but I could almost see past it with the wall half painted. And the more I stare at it the more it does seem to take away from the balance of the wall even with something hung above it @minnie & grouse - I never thought of that, it would have been a great idea! we’ve just repainted the bannisters from a dark mahogany stained colour to all white, I didn’t think to change the handrails, I might have to see how far time and budget allow as the carpets are going in next week As the walls are half painted I might complete it in a colour just to get a full visual and appease my soul that I took the right decision! then finally decide either way, but please do keep any last minute ideas coming, I’m certainly learning a thing or two along the way
