What colour grout to use for these tiled floors?

I bought these encaustic reclaimed tiles from Bert & May and have no idea what grout to use and am stressed about getting it horribly wrong. They're for a toilet floor. The encaustic tiles below are Fired Earth's Madeira Madalena and are for the bathroom. Anyone got any ideas?

I'd go for an ivory grout. Please post a photo of the finished room!

I would go for BAL limestone, it is a great colour with a bit of warmth and goes with lots of colours.

Oh dear, I hope your company didn't lay them... The problems are legion, but the most striking mistake is in the layout. The tiles do not follow the line of the stairs, nor are they symmetrical. This will ALWAYS make the hall look lopsided. When you add in the colour scheme and lack of other period features, the owners have a problem. Are these encaustic tiles? The colour is far from traditional for a hallway and as others have said- more suited for a bathroom/utility room. If they are encaustic, why not move them to the garden and make a Mediterranean courtyard? The hall can then be inviting rather than blinding.

Okay, appreciate the advice given so far. Went to the local tile shop with medium grey and sand grout samples and found that sand was a different shade to the sample in the shop. After taking newer samples out it looks to be my tiler samples had discoloured. So in the end sand was much browner than I wanted. Below is medium grey and also a lighter version (manhattan). Also size of the job. Now wondering if I should go lighter?

If the two colours will be mixed, I’d suggest you use grey or lighter shade of navy blue. If you go too dark definition between the tiles geometry will be lost. Light to mid grey grout for example should work well as it will let the geometry and colour pop.

It looks like a light grey grout, this is commonly available from most suppliers. Better grout brands will also offer an upgraded option with microban added into the mix, this will prevent it from discolouring over time.

Hi Lucy!

What beautiful tiles :-). Sorry for the horrible answer: it depends... The ivory grout can definitely work and so can the limestone one. But how does your wider space look like and the furniture? Modern or classic? A way to put a modern twist on these tiles is to use a medium to dark grey grout. :) but we would have to see the space to best advise you.

We are in love with the tiles though....

Hi Lucy. This is the BAL limestone grout with green slate tiles. It looks darker with pale tiles.

Hi Lucy,

For a toilet floor a darker grey grout would be best to hide any stains or spills. However from your photo the base colour of the tile looks quite beige, so a coloured grout like the BAL Micromax2 in Lime would be a good option, this will keep a heritage look whilst being more practical than an off-white.
