Where should you put your Bedside Wall Lamps?

We need help on behalf of a customer!

One of our customers has just bought our ew Iris bed (see below), and they are currently doing making some style decisions. They have asked whereabouts the wall lamps should be fitted in relation to the bed frame, in order to get a sufficient amount of light for reading in bed.

Any suggestions (by tomorrow if possible) would be really helpful! :)

The trouble with wall lights, are they're a bit static, in the wall, I hope they dont change the size or type of bed in the future.
We have recently installed ceiling mounted lights in our sons bedroom, which can be moved easily enough, but then are still pretty fixed as they have individual dimmer switches at the side of the bed (as well as controlled at the doorway gang) so all the same static issue regardless that I chose lights with adjustable pivots or not.
When I go for making one of the more master suites, I'm going to go with either a shelf above the bed, or other custom headboard which can be changed easier.
In another room, I have a high bed and didnt want to be stuck with permanent electric layout dictating the room, so went for very tall buffet lamps... they work great alongside the enormous headboard. Probably not much help, but it's all I have, I'm sure you'll get some glossy designer home inspiration on houzz :)

I'd put them next to the headboard, if there's space (if the bed doesn't just fit between two windows for example). Here are a couple of examples.

Hi. Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up your living area I think a select piece of art would really make the room stand out, add interest and add a great talking point to the room.... I agree that the TV unit takes up too much space. I'm not sure it would work with the wallpaper though. I think that the pattern would be very distracting and may create confusion to the eye. Is there anywhere else you could put it? How about in a recess to one side of the fireplace?

Hello Rachele, The way to look at this is how you live.. Then look at the space.. I do think it's lovely to have kitchen that goes out onto the garden... If the space is large enough it could be possibly to have a multi functioning space... Kitchen dining and entertaining all in one with the additional element of enjoying the space as a whole.. One way might be to have a long galley run with an island that morphs into a dining space.. Or extend the exterior doors to a full run, so that you can have one large room with cooking dining on one side and living on the other.. Other ways to integrate many functions under 1 space would be to look at levels... A sunken seating area or a raised dining platform.. So many ways to deal with the idea of a space that has many uses.. Think of how you do things.. Do you want to have a cooking element on an island so you can face the garden and your guests? Do you want a sleek line with sliding doors that hides the kitchen.. Think of what you might want to show off.. this might then help you define the space. : )) Here's a smaller version of a kitchen and outside area... It's to show you that you may be able to look at smaller spaces and create ways to make them work for you.. Then there may be ways to bring the outside in... Look at this one for ideas as to how to merge the space together... that is perhaps more than just a sliding door and a dining table.. Of course this can depend on where you are but I like to suggest things that get the creativity going and might spark an idea! : ))

Thank you for everyone's comments, had no idea this thread would prove so popular when I started it. We are plastering this week and we have finally bought most things for the kitchen. I did find some real 'finds' though if anyone is looking. Not sure where you are based, but regarding electrical goods we researched all our own and narrowed down our list, and once we had that we looked online for the best prices for each appliance. Instead of buying from lots of different places we took it to Bentalls, who not only matched, but also cost us less, and beat some online prices with a good 'deal' price they also then will hold on to them until you need them, but if anything goes wrong you have 'bentalls' rather than several online dealers to return items to. RDO Appliances also do this if there is one near you, but i'd advise you to research prices first. Another thing we found was inserts for the kitchens. Through our kitchen supplier these were expensive, bin inserts, pull out drawers, pull out larders, even the pop up sockets, sourced seperately through ebay and online we managed to save quite a lot of money by doing this, so our fitter will still have the right things on the day, but we are not getting the inserts from the supplier. What else..... erm kitchen worktop, unbelievably the exact same worktop, same material, same cut outs etc.. same sizes differed between suppliers by 3k! so do shop around for your quartz and granite.

Depends if they have bedside cabinets and what type of wall lights they are also. Ideally I’d place the wall lights at the side of the bed (like Carolina has shown) central above bedside cabinets and either level with the top of the headboard or just above it.
