Mixing Material and Colors

We redid our master bedroom bath (ensuite, 4 piece but small) in all white (very expensive) ceramic tile. We now need to update but I don't want to pull off the wall tile. Any thoughts on redoing the shower and floor in contrasting materials and/or colors. We're planning to sell in 4 years.

Hello,

So the bathroom in the image had three tiles within the space, but all grouted with a white grout which helped tie the space together.

I think you could definitely tiles the shower and floor in a contrasting tile... maybe nothing too strongly coloured as it will appear quite dominant on the space. The green tile in the photograph has a slight variance across the surface which helped soften it.

The good thing is the white wall tiles will most likely go with any colour you prefer... it will be hard to match it to another white tile, so you are best off going for a colour I think.

Hello comegetme.. the pics are really coming along.. I do feel the red is too prominent with the calmer colours in the room... I would personally try to find something that offers "red" but not quite in such a bold way.. Unless the rear wall was red too... I like the bottom version but the sofa and chair still stand out too much.. I think layering with throws is fine, maybe a beige and a colour that accents the walls of said bottom image.. .. Over 1 side to break up the brown is all you need to do.. Maybe a little table lamp in red too and you have the cushions.. Looking good! : ))

I must admit I love a Chesterfield and think they are the most adaptable piece of furniture as they fit with so many styles. I've got one in a "soft" industrial room so not restricted to cottages! Have you thought about having the sofa with accent chairs? Or you can also match different styles and colours of sofas by tying in the different colours with cushions . Do you have a picture of the room and people can suggest what would work with the layout?

Hello Lauren, With plush carpeting and a sheen such as yours. The important thing is to look at how the pile works.. With some luxurious looking carpeting there is a tendency for footprints.. When the pile naturally parts underfoot or any movement.. It can show.. The key thing is to decide if this works for you.. I have had clients for whom despite the feel and luxurious look - the overall way this interacts with what it comes into contact with ultimately didn't work for them.. Consider how you feel about the visual element of the carpet vs how it feels etc.. If you are happy with it then great but don't be put off insisting on a replacement if this is really what you want.. Wool carpeting and hand weaves behave in a different way and so, you must have what you'll ultimately enjoy the most.. : ))
