formal front room - waste of a room or useful?

Hello All, we are embarking on an extension to the rear of our house. Th rear has a large south facing garden so we plan to do a lot of our day to Day living in the rear part of the house (including creating a new family/cosy/tv room). This leaves us with what to do with the existing large lounge which is at the front of the property. I’m of a mind to modify it to a posh front room / grown up room. But my worry is is this just a waste of a room? (Ie probably then only being used once twice a year) I wondered if other people have had the same dilemma and if so what they did with their old front room? Thanks very much
