lighting help for new kitchen extension

I'm in need of lighting advice. We are part way through our kitchen diner extension and are stuck with the lighting of it. It will be an L shaped room. My husband has said to have 12 spotlights in the new extension bit, 3 rows of 4 and in the original part to have 3 spotlights in a row. His thinking is to have them all on 1 dimmer switch. I'm not too sure of that but can't think how else to have it.

I would have zoned lighting as my extension is similar. By doing this you create key areas.
One for eating, one for the kitchen and one for socialising. I did go over budget on lighting but it was worth the cost, I also had. Light switches put by doors in and out of the area.
Photos are hard to see but there is before and after shots.
I put spots above the seating / tv area, a ceiling light above the dining table and spots in the kitchen area. My spots turn on and off only, no dimmers as I have lamps.

Comments (6)I like Option 2 honestly. Obviously you are finding it hard to visalize what the space will look like but honestly that is a huge space so I would recommend putting in the utility considering what you gain from it. You gain a space where you can block out the sound of the washing machine- who wants that sound when your eating dinner? Also washing is unsightly- do you wants piles of clothes in your nice brand spanking new kitchen? In terms of the corridor you are going to have lots of light coming through from the new extension. When you enter the front door and can see straight through to the garden spaces feel much bigger than they actually are anyway. Also who says it has to be boring. Have some fun wallpaper or colourful art hanging. Also if you want to make something more spacious use sliding doors for utility and wc. Less items infringing on corridor space. And lastly, the reception is purely personal preference based upon how your family function. Personally I prefer two rooms. Allows for more space to get away from the open plan area. Comments (7)You have a lovely, huge space to work with- that’s terrific. Are the position and size of the 2 windows fixed? I’d suggest getting the ideal, functional kitchen design first and then considering window placement next.. it may be that a single large window suits the final design better. I would change the fridge position to get it into either side of the main kitchen run. Ideally it should have counter space immediately adjacent to it. Imagine yourself grabbing and pouring milk for cereal.. and immediately putting it back.. can you do it with nary a step? For your oven setup, consider whether you might want one (or even both) directly under your hob. It can make a huge difference to efficiency for the cook, especially if their meals tend to involve active use of both oven and hob. Imagine making spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread… how easy is it to bake, grill, and stir the sauce without burning anything? Or having to squeeze past any kitchen visitors in your kitchen zone to check? ( And for draining the pasta, how far is it to the sink with boiling water?)
