Sing with me my new blues song: "Oh, I hate my laundry room."

My house was designed by someone who never cooked, baked, cleaned or did laundry. How do I know this? 1) Because the kitchen cabinets are all HIGH and DEEP, meaning if I want X, I must first pull out YYYYYY to get to X and then put back YYYYYY. 2) The laundry room is miniscule. Yes, I should have stackable appliances, but I can't see throwing something in a landfill just because of the dinky laundry room. 3) There is very little storage room. 4) There is no broom closet. So...I want to buy a cabinet and store all of my cleaning products and Swiffer, etc. in. Prices online range wildly. I worry about some cheap cabinet collapsing under the weight of cleaning products. Has anyone made a recent purchase of a cabinet that they especially like?

I have designed a few things in laundry rooms for clients that really maximize the space. A built in company can give you something sturdy that is customized for your space. If you need to do something on the lower price side these pictures may give you some inspiration. One is storage created above and on the sides of full size units. The other is a mud room that had a broom closet added and over head storage. My best advice would be design for the long run, don't do anything that won't convert well if you end up going to the stackable units.

@huffyboy - I call them all sorts. Girls invariably get called 4 different names together (theirs along my sister's). Boys like-wise with their Dads name thrown in. Often I just call out all their names in order - from eldest to youngest and see who presents themselves. Very commonly - I need a small child = one from the second clutch. Hi Catherine, You have a lovely open plan kitchen and lounge, but as you say, it lacks punch and interest. Since you're stuck with the stainless steel kitchen for the time being, you need to work with it and have some fun. A symmetrical arrangement of stainless steel shelves either side of the splash back for the cooker would allow you to put up interesting bottles, plants, china, etc. What about painting this wall a bright colour like Seville Orange from Crown and the other walls in natural white. You could also paint the base of the island in the Seville Orange. In the seating area, use the orange colour and some others like plum or blue-grey in fabric patterns, have cushions made up for the seating area. Also an area rug large enough for the front feet of your sofas and the coffee table to sit on with colour would brighten up this area. It's unfortunate that the TV is blocking a French window. Can it be moved somewhere else, perhaps the bay if the bottom shutters are never opened?
