living room layout and design conundrum

Hello, I am new to Houzz and finding helpful ideas as I have just moved into a 2 bed flat that needs a bit of work. However the living room is a real conundrum due to its odd layout and slightly strange shape. I like having a fire place, either a non functioning one in the wall or an electric fake fireplace.

I have attached a copy of the plan. Where do I put the sofa and TV? The sofa fits well in terms of length between the end of the chimney breast and the end wall, although has a radiator behind. This is where I have had it, with the TV opposite on the outside wall. However, sitting here you can see out of the window but you cannot see the from the chimney breast where ideally I would like to fit a fire place. Any ideas on how I can make this work?

The only idea I have had would be to buy an electric fire suite that includes the fire surrounds and place it on the end wall on the right but worried that would look odd considering there is a chimney in the room. Any suggestions would be great! Hopefully I will have a few good ideas for you one day :)

Hello! Wow! Thank you very much for your advice. So, there is a radiator on the right hand wall. That is where current owners put their tv. Not sure it will fit, will measure up soon hopefully. The TV could go on a smaller unit to be honest, and will make sure radiator is turned down! Just worried that there isn't enough room for a corner sofa there with the door to the hallway..(see photos on rightmove) I LOVE the idea of large mirrors either side of fireplace. Pinching that! ;) My current living room is decorated in shades of greys and lots of gold. Thinking of going navy and gold but not too sure. Sofa colours argh! Huge thanks I'm very grateful. Katie

Hi Jonny,

How about placing your sofa with it's back against the external wall and then having a TV unit or sideboard with TV on top or wall mounted above to the right hand side of the chimney (as you look at the floor plan)? You could then install a fireplace to the chimney and comfortably view the TV and fireplace from your sofa. Or you could position the sofa on the far right hand wall (as you look at the plan) and have the TV angled towards the sofa if you still want to view the window from the sofa (a corner or chaise sofa could work well in this layout?
