tv over my fireplace
Comments (1)Is it a real fire or gas/electric? If real then it's not advised to put it over a fire at all (even gas but that's not as bad) Cable wise, a chanel would have to be put in at the side of the chimney - either running down the front side or around to the inner alcove. Or, if the plasterboard has been built out on a framework then there might be a gap between the wall and the boarding. If you have exposed brickwork then I don't think it's possible....See MoreMidi Cabinets and TV
Comments (7)My suggestion, on the other site you posted this on, was to turn the island around 180 degrees so the seating is in front of the glazed doors and mount the TV on the flat side of the island... This would give you TV viewing from a corner sofa very well - either facing the TV or the fire - but the down side is you wouldn't be able to watch TV when you are on the breakfast bar . It would also give you a great 'shopping bag ' placement area for when you fill your fridge and larder cabinet. And fill and unload the dishwasher etc too. Unless you mount the TV in the region where the designer drew it - ie above the fire - ( hope it won't get hot ?!) I don't think it will work flat on the wall. So even if you use tall wall units (900mm usually ) on a 150mm plinth height - either on a height reduced midi carcase or on a wall carcase - you will probably need to put the TV on an angled bracket to watch it from the sofa....See Morewe need help with the living room / TV units !!!!
Comments (10)Hi. I would bring forward the sofa about 3ft forward from where it is now. Add a long console/sideboard etc behind the sofa (door ŵall) with a pair of matching table lamps and a set of 8/12 symmetrical art prints over the top. Add a console behind the sofa back facing the kitchen and accessorise (not with lamps!). Move the coffee table in front of the sofa. I'd move the tv to the other side of the fire and have someone make a cabinet to fit the tv just something similar to your yellow one). Pop a couple of lamps on this cabinet. Move the chair to the other corner (but not right in it) and pop a floor lamp or your existing one behind. I'd go for art over the fire, something with mainly a white background picking up a little of your colours. I think a light would be fine over the dining table, it won't lower the ceiling further as you've got the extractor, and as the table isn't symmetrical to the island I think it would work. Alternatively remove the light fitting and have an arc lamp on that rhs ŵall partly over the table. What ŵalls were you looking to decorate? Is the blue going? I think given the colours in the room I'd go grey, white or a duck egg could work for the main ŵalls....See MoreDo you prefer fireplace or TV furniture as focal point of living room
Comments (30)Your views pls: we have a large flat screen TV positioned centrally on the chimney breast (not clear on the photo), however the fireplace is offset, not central to the chimney breast. We originally fitted the TV central to the fireplace but it didn't look right as the TV overlapped the right hand edge of the chimney breast. It just doesn't look right in either position. Would it be better in the left alcove (it just fits the width) or the right alcove (which is wider) above one of the bookcases? The other consideration is the TV leads, they cannot be chased into the old stone walls. The sockets are on the left alcove. Thoughts anyone?...See MoreCarolina
