Mattress for a German bed

I have a wooden framed German bed two mattresses each 80 x190 cm I can’t find exact size replacements has anyone any ideas I don’t want to spend a fortune on something like a Hulsta make which seems to be the only answer at present.

Could you not just use a small single mattress? That would be 76cm wide. Maybe with a thick mattress cover?

Would a single 160cm mattress do instead? IKEA seem to do all of their mattresses in 160 x 200.

Hi l don't know where you could get one as you describe. I made a double bed base with the end open so a stow away bed was stored under the base had a Valance with kick pleats. when the stow away bed was out it was the same high. hope this helps. Regards Bob

Partner likes mattress flat and hard. I like mattress soft and a bit lumpy, like what a good fat bed topper does. He's cold when he sleeps, I'm hot. We both snore! Now in separate beds, in separate rooms. Both got the mattress we wanted but something is missing. As they say, you can't have it all, alas!

Ordinarily, I flip mine ("flip" sounds so easy!) every three months without fail: end-to-end, side-to-side, end-to-end, side-to-side. Repeat, ad infinitum. It does extend the life of the mattress and help it wear more evenly. (Did I mention I once worked for a mattress company?) With new ones and plush "mattress toppers" built-in and memory foam layers on one side and not the other... You can't really flip it over. Both sides are not the same. In the UK our mattress is sort of foam-core / layer-filled. (I don't think it has springs. It's not like the US mattresses I'm used to.) The top is the top, and the bottom is the bottom, and one does not sleep on the bottom. Consequently, I flip it from side-to-side, but not over, every three months. (If I'm making sense here.) In the US we have a traditional coil-spring-with-layers-on-both-sides mattress: no memory foam, no combination "stuffing," no mattress topper. And I do the quarterly thing with it. ...and suddenly I feel like an old lady who grew up in the '50s and learned housekeeping from Mom and my aunts and my grandmothers. O.o

It’s an unusual size, even for a continental bed. I had a quick look and 80x190 is hard to find, however have you looked on Amazon? I found a few there, example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Viscoelastic-Mattress-Luxury-Comfort-Cashmere/dp/B01DYDQX1O/ref=sr_1_18?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1515177829&sr=1-18&keywords=80x190+mattress Couldn’t say what the quality is like tho. Alternative, although it would cost more is to have them made. bedguru.co.uk looks like they make good quality mattresses and also cater for individual sleeping needs. Hope this helps.

I got this bed as part of a very nice bedroom set up when I lived in Germany 190cm length was quite common bedrooms being on the small size. To buy a new bed would mean destroying the really nice clean lines as it all fits together so well. Thanks for the comments and ideas you have at least given me something to work on, high street shops were useless
