should the floor colour match the worktop?

Hi there
We’ve just had a new kitchen fitted and I think the vinyl flooring is too busy. Our worktop is a beautiful granite and I’d like that to be the centre of attention. We can get the floor changed this week and I need to make a decision. Should I:
1. Leave it as it is
2. Change to a flat light grey colour, same tone as the work top
3. Change it to a light brown/grey with a bit more character - different from cabinet and worktop, but perhaps tie in better with living room
The kitchen is open plan to living room which has stripped pine floor.

Comments (4)I think your eventual choice will depend on the colour you pick for the units. While creams/sand/limestone coloured doors will work nicely with your choice of granite, I still think white will go too. As to tiles, I'd probably go for a porcelain with a bit of physical texture (some "grit") and tones which mix beiges through to greys. This should pick up the mix of the granite. Alternatively, I'd look at wood effect Karndean or Palioclik (possibly Arezzo) in a Sand Oak type colour. Sample image here. Hope this gives you some ideas - and let us know what you decide! Comments (24)Hi Cake lady thanks for your comment. I have considered the wood effect tiles. However the kitchen adjoins a hall which has an oak laminate floor. I'm concerned the two different types of wood will clash. what do you think? Good to know they're low maintenance. Comments (4)I believe the white/off white tops are easy to keep clean and show less marks than darker ones (so numerous kitchen places have told me!) they would be a nice contrast to your units and would match with a lighter toned floor. That's certainly a fun floor but we'd agree that it takes the attention from the striking worktop. 'Greige' engineered boards would create a subtle base, complementing the colour of the units and the walls, while adding a touch of warmth too. Here are some ideas for when you come to the end of living vicariously through your vinyl :)
