Ideas for bay window dressing

I’d like some ideas for bay window dressings please. We’ve moved into a 1920s house which has some great bay windows. We’ve kept the Roman blinds that the original owner had but looking for alternative ideas as they aren’t ideal. They don’t keep the cold out and also get mouldy as they touch the windows when up. Any ideas would be appreciated (sorry the picture is a Christmas one!)

The best way to keep the cold out would be to have floor length lined curtains. This would exclude the draft the best. Is the sill narrow enough to sit behind some curtains?

In terms of style, a classic French Pinch Pleat or a tailored pleat gives a full appearance. Select from a single, double or triple pleat. This is perfect for large window areas and bay windows.

I too thought shutters would block out too much light, but the look when fitted is so lovely, and with wider size slats, the more light they let in. The pics below have small slats but its the same style of bay with shutters. Also don't have the push rods on the front if you want a cleaner look. Having the slats split so top/bottom open separately like pic below is also good if you want privacy without shutting out light from the top. High gloss shutters also reflect light into the room and shutters seem to go with any look, period or contemporary.

We've recently had full length curtains in our bay window and a matching Roman blind at the small window. Our small window is not on the same wall as the bay, but it looks really good. We splashed out on made to measure and it was worth every penny.

Lucky guests, what a lovely room with a great outlook! Agree that the look of the window would be significantly improved by painting the frames and sill white. The window is quite tricky to dress for a number of reasons: the deep sill, the position of the cupboard on the left, and not least the ceiling immediately over the bay that makes it very difficult to position a curtain rail that would look satisfactory. I think that the simplest, most effective and best looking solution would be 5 roller blinds. That’s an economical solution too if you fit ready-mades yourself. They are generally quite easy to cut to size, and not difficult to fit - although in a bay the job requires a little patience!
