Is the glass double paned?

What, if any, energy ratings does this addition -- this glass -- have? Is the glass custom cut or stock? Who manufactures the glass doors?

The loss of energy due to the bespoke double-glazed addition is mitigated by energy savings in other areas of the extension + the existing house.

The glazing company has since gone into liquidation. There are plenty bespoke glazing companies who can do same/better.........take a look at my 'Tardis' project https://www.houzz.co.uk/projects/597269/the-wow-factor-tardis-east-sheen - this has a more dramatic look and feel in real life.....the pics and the host property for this Kew project are more photogenic

You are right again, Pheobe! We sort of tricked them: we only put single glazing on the ground floor windows, the rest of the house (and back) are double glazed and all our windows have shutters (way better than secondary glaze!! :)) Our argument was that whoever is looking at the area would not notice that we have double glazed windows at first and second floor. Don't get me wrong - I love living in a conservation area and do my best to follow the rules - it all comes to respecting and enjoying the place you live in and I, as most of my neighbours, recognise this. However, I am aware that not everybody thinks the same and some would carelessly ignore its importance if rules weren't in place. What I find irritating is the lack of flexibility and the contrary, even hypocritical rules imposed by some county councils. There's always a happy medium, it's just that they seem to have missed that class. PS: Let's not forget the safety issue; it's harder to break the glass in a double glazed window than a single one.

We've got 4.4m and are having 3 panels but it was a close run thing as I prefer the look og wider panels. We are south though so (hopefully) will be opening them more often. With 3.6m and in Scotland I'd be choosing 2 panels... ...*unless* you are going to have curtains which will hide each end of the doors even when pulled back, or furniture which blocks the ends. If that's the case then go for 3 so as to leave the centre clear as per above.

crittal is the original classic slip profile, they have a long history. most aluminium window suppliers buy in profiles and manufacture the windows. the glazing unit needs to be well made from a good source as it is this that provides the u value. as long as the thermal break is manufactured correctly and the the windows are ideally internally beaded or if externally beaded has a security lock to prevent the glass being removed. they are generally branded " secured by design".

It may be worth speaking to the electrician if you're not as keen on swagging. I know they can run a "pipe" through the ceiling void with the cabling in to put extra outlets and then just drill a hole from underneath the ceiling for the light but that is dependant on the joist direction etc though. That may not be feasible for what you want to do but may be worth asking the question anyway! If not, choose hooks that blend in with the ceiling? It will be easier to assess position this way too as you can just get the electrician to hold each one up for assessment before fixing! A general rule is that lights should be 1/2 - 2/3 of the tables width and normally hung 30-36 inches above the table. Given the double height I'd probably just start the lowest pendant c40-46 inches but I'm not sure on your total ceiling height and even though it's a feature you want to make sure the table is sufficiently lit! It's probably worth drawing it out on paper
