Matt or gloss kitchen units?

I would like a new kitchen but I’m undecided on which finish to go for. I’d like to start a poll for 2018 to see what current opinions are.

It’s a south facing kitchen in London, with large bi-fold doors, so there is plenty of light coming in. It has light wood flooring with a white wash (similar to option4).

Diana, have you considered herringbone pattern with wood effect tiles? They’re matt, but have a light texture and would make an interesting design statement and make the space feel a bit more cozy..And because they are ceramic tiles, they are easy to clean and would last forever. You can also install floor heating mats underneath.

It’s 2018 so I thought I’d get the current thoughts of Houzz app users! Which of these kitchen do you prefer? It would be for a south facing kitchen in London, which has quite a lot of light coming in. I have both. In my main home I have super matt. Granted you can’t see the fingerprints but they are there. However when the light shines at a specific angle you can see the marks and they are a sod to get off. I use a magic eraser and it works ok but they’re not really suitable for big areas so I resort to a Spontex cloth soaked in soapy warm water, wipe over and buff up with a microfibre cloth. Sometimes though you can still see marks. In my caravan I have gloss doors. Easy to clean. Easier than super matt. Both doors I have are handleless so I try to not push the actual door but use the ledge provided. If you’re just looking for a slab door which can be reproduced by companies who have the appropriate machinery there is now a board available that has fingerprint technology. It’s called Serica. It relatively new and has 12 colours to choose from.

A TH kitchen is the dream!! Far from the B&Q stuff we are looking at now. Saying that, I think when we go for it properly it’ll be DIY kitchens. We saw some amazing cabinetry and so many practical options. Yes it is pretty dark so maybe white cabinets/marble style worktop and green tiles might brighten it up. Even changing the sink to white too! We are actually going to get a whole new island-including carcass. The one we have now is so impractical with just two shelves. We will make it a little bigger and have drawers so when we remove the high wall units, we have somewhere to put those bits and easy to access. The whole way the kitchen has been done is really irritating...only 3 drawers in the whole room! I’m only 5ft too so it’s a struggle reaching anything in those high cabinets!
