Chalk lines were snapped then carefully taped off using Frogtape for a tight seal before the stain was applied to the white oak floor to form the checkerboard pattern. The preparation and application of the stain is quite painstaking, but the end result is an extremely a durable and beautiful floor finish.

Having slept on this I think I am going for the fake statuario marble. Walnut coloured karndean ordered for the floor and I'm going to try the strip of marble tile underneath the top rail of the wainscotting to reduce tile costs and to prevent the room from looking overpowered by the marble. Just need to decide now on whether to use the subway sized tile or the larger scale 30cm X 60cm for the bath and shower areas where the tile will be floor to coving.

Hi Karl. I'm not convinced a glamorous look will work with the floor. Perhaps slightly vintage? Unless it's the camera angle you seem a bit restricted by the shaving point unless you move it? I'd go for a slim mirror with a shelf as pictured and then art over the loo (m and s had a vintagey mirror). I'd then add a lidded candle and a couple of nice potions on the shelf. If there's room I'd add a white marble soap dispenser and toothbrush on the sink (I think John Lewis do them with a matching toilet brush holder ). I always like hammam towels for something a bit different. How deep is the alcove? Could you take another pic?

Hi Dawn, Copper accents are a lovely idea. Have you seen the Orient Lamp from Lightyears? It's quite a statement piece, but it would tie the room together. Orient Copper Pendant Lamp Another more subtle option might be the Cloche table lamp, which comes in a polished brass shade. Wrong London Cloche Lamp This orange Lune sofa is a punchy, warm colour. Fritz Hansen have got several photos of it with different styled interiors. In this one, they used several accent colours on the wall, and a fantastic metallic line across. Bringing in bright colours is easier with an already bright sofa - they stand out in contrast to the orange sofa, but the grey walls balance them. Thank you to both tamp75 and rinked. i was hoping to utilise the wasted hall space where all the doors are. its a dark area leading to the dining room, WC, and kitchen. in the corner of the utility room is the boiler. so the niche for a basin couldn’t go there as access will be required to the boiler service door. i have wondered if a Wc could go along the wall of the utility room either a joining the study or ajoining the hall. with the door off the hall. is there enough space for this? Also i am not keen on a Macerator so can the Utility plumbing be easily adapted. its such a shame both the family bathroom and downstairs WC are in the middle of the best aspect. the Ensuite is in the area to the side of the house between the dining room and lounge. many thanks for any help.
