Help on paint colour for hallway

I am repainting my staircase and hallway walls and replacing the carpet, but am looking for suggestions on what colour scheme to go with, particularly with the wall colour. Currently they are white. I'd like something a bit warmer but given it can get quite gloomy there much of the day I'm scared of going too dark. In terms of flow with the other rooms, they are mostly green and cream or grey. Any suggestions for shades to try please? I'd love to paint the woodwork white I'm just not sure I'm brave enough! Thank you.

Hello Asandi,

I must advise that you paint your woodwork white, you are 100% on the right track with this thinking. If you look at my previous project in walpole you can see the large difference that painting your woodwork can make. Your space will brighten and as you had advise that the space can become gloomy what better way is there than to brighten the space.

With regards to painting the walls I would stick to a nice neutral colour palette as your spaces are currently Green, Cream and Grey based. Farrow & Balls 'Shadow White' would be a wonderful colour to ad to your spectrum, as it is bright in colour so will contrast nicely against your white woodwork and will keep your area bright yet provide you with a certain elegance. (Below is a snap of the colour).

With regards to carpet a nice (Grey & Cream) Herringbone patterned carpet would be a wonderful addition to your stairway.

I’m following this as I’m in a similar position. Hall is magnolia, staircase mahogany. I definitely want to paint my woodwork white with grey handrail and posts, but am leaving this until last as a time consuming job. The only issue I see with yours is that you have all wooden doors etc. So they will remain non matching (mine are already white). Just done tester pots and am thinking dulux white cotton on the walls, but wondering about feature wall on the big wall?? In past houses I have used dulux Apple white (green) and orchid white to inject light and personality into hallways.

Hello appydaysdevon, With artificial lighting I would suggest going with some warm tones. Also dense and chalky is my preference. Little Greene is often a suggestion with a range of many lovely colours including a grey palette, but I would stay with blue considering the carpet.... Team with something like Whitening which is a lovely chalky warm white. Should you decide to take a look at that one. I have used Dulux in the classics range.. Here Bone China might have been a nice choice if you want to stick with D for above the panelling.. Given you have a mid to dark blue carpet which will be fitted... It would be a nice idea to continue on this theme. Go a shade darker or keep to the same shade re the carpet. I'm intrigued by what is above the false ceiling... :))

With white woodwork, I suggest painting the walls and woodwork in semi-gloss white. White woodwork and walls will make the space visually larger, and semi-gloss paint reflects light and is easy to clean.

Thank you Saddaf and Sonia, our hall is South East facing and the front near the door gets a good amount of light but on a cloudy day the way leading to the dining room, which only has one window is quite dark and we have a lot of woodwork there so we're thinking that area needs to be white. We've found another idea which we absolutely love, do you think we should go with this colour scheme but paint the skirting boards black and the rest of the wall the off white and the dado rail the same colour so it disappears or should we paint the wall under the dado rail black too? I've posted more pics of our hall so you can get an idea.
