Hi Heather. Thank you for your question. This bathroom is lit with low glare Polespring LED downlights directing light off the shutters, wall and adding sparkle to the basins. At low level, we used our Contour LED strip to creating a floating effect under the basin unit and finally in the niches used miniature Luccini downlights to emphsise these features. Like others have said, I personally would paint all four walls the dark blue (if the room is as light and bright as it looks in the photo). It does seem counter-intuitive to paint a bright room a dark colour, but if the quality of light is good, using a dark colour can really highlight that quality. And the lovely thing about the dark F&B paints, in my experience, is the way they look different at different times of day. I think the combination of dark blue-grey-tan is lovely, and a large mirror against a dark blue wall would look fantastic. If you decided that the room wasn't well-lit enough for all dark blue, I would go for just one wall - two walls one colour and the other two walls another colour might look like you just couldn't make up your mind. And by the way, I really like the way you've mismatched your sofas - not always an easy thing to get right!

An original oak staircase in this contemporary Hampshire home has been given a contemporary update by replacing the standard oak spindles with bronze metalwork. The banister and newel posts were stained in dark oak and a bespoke border carpet of Westex Velvet was designed to cover the stairs. A feature wall of metallic grass cloth is softly lit by the ambient lighting which frames the staircase. Each panel is clad in bespoke duck egg blue leather, which has also been used on each internal door. Bespoke glass door knobs have been used to decorate each door, which cast a soft golden glow. This golden theme is continued with a golden disc lighting sculpture and triptych mirror.

I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process

Rule of thumb we use when specifying mirrors with lights is size, if it's going over a vanity area having a matching size looks the most appealing. Alternatively if you are having the mirror elsewhere (on a long wall) a nice large mirror 1000x800 will give you more light and make a larger room feel bigger. Sockets are always a nice add on, most of us have electric tooth brushes but this isn't always necessary. I hope this helps a little, good luck wit your search!
