Ideas for my sad looking living room.

Dulux pure brilliant white is a good choice so you don't get confused with the cold/warm undertones. Change the largest sofa for something smaller, I don't mind the other one as it is a modern style but if it is worn and you feel you need to change then now is the best time. Wool fabric is a great hard wearing choice and is easy to clean. I have children and have had mid charcoal wool fabric sofas for 4 years and they are perfect! Don't forget that your sofa is an investment so put your money into this as décor can be changed a lot cheaper! Paint the fire surround colour to a charcoal to make it stand out and also link in with the sofas NOW.... is the fun part! I'd concentrate on the red curtains and find some art work or wallpaper or a rug or cushion that you REALLY love with red in and possibly some other bright colours. Be creative & bold! I would consider changing the green curtains but by this stage you'll have a better feel of the room and where it is heading and how you want the room to look from here. If you are worried about the cost of curtains, I'd look at IKEA as you can get some lovely cheap curtains from there. Once you've got to this stage, I'd post some before pics and after pics for us on Houzz and ask for further advice on decorating as you would have a blank slate and something that you LOVE that you can work with on the colours to bring in touches of texture and warmth and comfort from there. Good Luck!...See Moreliving room update - which sofa??
Comments (22)Hi all, thank you for your comments and pics. They were really helpful. We have decided on the French connection zinc in grey/charcoal (3 seater) combination with the grey leather cuddler. I’m just so excited I could burst. We need to wait 6-8 weeks so gives me a little time to consider paint and layout. Though I have already sold our sofa so we are taking in in terms to sit in the Ikea armchair and floor picnics. What kind of layout do you guys think would work? Thinking 3 seater on window wall and tv in same corner or where the chest is? or 3 seater on opposite wall and moving tv to corner under window and then cuddler either in centre facing fireplace or where chest is? The armchair and child chair will be at the other end in a reading corner. Positioning: The chest can go either to left or right of fire depending on tv location though it does not quite fit to right so I would have to go lengthways sling radiator or to right. The best of tables could go at opposite end of the three seater. Want to buy a new tv/media unit at some point. Not sure on style but think will need to be either white or a dark wood to mix well with the chest.. Colours.. I love the redoute Afaw rug to lighten the room and am thinking maybe two walls in a teal - farrow and ball Hague blue or another (open to recommendations) on fireplace wall and wall to left (where chest currently is?) to separate living from play. Not sure whether to repaint other walls in a brilliant white, leave in the soft white currently or paint in a pale grey. Can anyone help with suggestions? Also thinking a few pops of yellow with cushions and keeping the gold round mirror though it may Need positioning a little higher? Thoughts? Back to houzz it is for inspiration....See MoreNeed Flooring help please for an open plan kitchen/dining/living space
Comments (21)Hi there, When it comes to engineered wooden floors they have been designed to work in conjunction with under floor heating so there is no issue there. If you are looking to go for a wooden floor then we would recommend going for an engineered board with a brushed and lacquered finish. The brushed texture will hide and scratches or scuffs that may occur, the lacquer on the board. Generally our boards come with 8 coats of Super Matte Lacquer. The lacquer will help protect the board from any spillages seeping into the board. If you have an idea of the colour you would be looking to go for we would be more than happy to suggest some suitable products. We also have some very realistic laminate Flooring by Kronoswiss. The Kronoswiss origins ranges comes in at 14mm thick. It is An AC5 Grade, each laminate is graded between AC1 - AC5. AC5 being the most durable. These boards have been designed to take heavy traffic. The origins range comes with the new Aqua stop technology, stopping spillages from seeping into the board for up to 72 hours. Giving reassurance if any spillages do happen. Here are some of the boards from the Origins range. This is the Kronoswiss Rock Oak Kronoswiss Moon Kronoswiss Sunset. See full range here. If you do have any further queries or suggest a colour of flooring we will try our best to point you in the right directions. You can either give us a call on 0141 8875 5698 or you can drop us an email at info@floormonster.co.uk kind Regards, Floor Monster Team...See MoreLiving room layout help please
Comments (17)Hi. I hope I got it right. You do not need kitchen upstairs and you want to turn whole floor to a relaxing area for you two. Right? See what I would do on the picture. You do not need to move or remove the fireplace if you set furniture around that it makes symmetry illusion. Placing to sofas opposite each other will serve symmetry and generous relaxing space for both of you. Instead of dining room I would place a nice comfy lounger with and arch lamp and side table and a bookcase along the wall to create a beautiful place for reading. Kitchen can be replaced by bedroom with a walk-in closet or whether is possible could be also en-suite. I have also different idea but information about you is not enough to make a proper suggestion....See Moremefor
