Storage in an attic conversion

We are looking at doing an attic conversion on our terraced house. We want to put an ensuite in it, but also need to keep storage for items like christmas decorations as we have no garage.

Anyone found a clever way to build storage back into an attic room?

It would be better if you could be really specific...............so adding a little rough drawn plan and dimensions would help. There are so many products for storage it really depends on height, width and depth. Ikea have great storage ideas, some that pull out from really narrow spaces and are accessible on both sides for instance.

i am thinking less storage to build into the room and more how to fit a cupboard in or use the eaves. will post the plan as it stands

How many bedrooms do you have and what's the layout? If you can get stairs in, then you could go for a usable loft room, not a full conversion. We have an attic with restricted head height. We never did bother with lifting the roof higher. We just stuck veluxes in and then boarded it out and plastered. Very simple. As you see, we only boarded the roof and plastered that, putting storage cupboards all the way underneath the purlins.

Evening Daisy and the reason I'm asking is because the joist are only 2 by 5 inch thick crossing the full span of the house which would be 8m so nothing is supporting the joist up like a supporting wall plus there a sign saying not suitable for weight or what ever it says......;)

I built wardrobes at one end to take in the gable for height. Then I built cupboards under the eaves right the way along most of both sides.
