do as Dundrum says. although your pic doesn't show the rest of the street I suspect there is a strong symmetry with the other houses. this needs to be kept. a statement is what this house eally doesn't need. As has been said, refresh the exterior paintwork keeping it the same as the neighbours and/or in line with that of the other houses on the street, and generally smarten up what is there. the hedge on the left should be clipped. the tree on the right is a yew and should not be touched. it is a slow grower and will cause no problems. if it is bothering you the whole tree and not just your side can be trimmed by a third. one thing that would be good is to remove all the weeds from the gravel, possibly relay the gravel if needed, and introduce some sort of threshold between you and the road - it may already exist underneath the weeds.

Thanks all! I've been down to the builders merchant with my builder and there are so many different types. There is one that exactly matches my brick but it's a slightly wider brick so that wouldn't work. These 2 seem to be the best of the bunch other than reclaimed bricks which I understand cost a fortune. I'm leaning towards the texture matching now too given that there is an option to tint or weather the bricks somehow if they really need it. I appreciate everyone taking the time to comment! Great minds think alike Carolina:) some great inspiration pics. Was just thinking about neighbours emergency access. How about a something like a half arch attached to the house wall. Think it will create a visual barrier but not a physical one and could be a lot cheaper in the short term. Long term I’d be looking at a gate which can accessed from both sides but big wooden gates don’t come cheap. Or how about western style saloon doors:) will probably need a catch to stop them flapping about in the wind...anyway, I’m just brainstorming. Gate at the bottom of the steps probably not necessary but I would think about one at the top of the steps if you plan to have any escape artist toddlers. Like you say the path is in your garden so a tall fence between path and lawn would spoil it imho. After all how often will your neighbor need to use the access. I’m rattling on. Here’s some more inspo pics for half arch/saloon doors. Would love to see your progress when you’ve done the fence. All the best.

Hi Kerri

There's no concrete on this project. I think you are referring to the paving which is sawn York stone. It is very beautiful. You would have to let me know how many bricks you need and I'll let you know the price. Ben
