It think gray cabinets with gray floors might be gray overload. White is classic and will always be in style.

HI Lorraine , I like the sound of your kitchen colours! Without seeing the tones in a picture its difficult to determine which shades you have chosen but I can visualise both white and grey in a printed or decorated tile. By choosing a decorated tile you can combine the colour of your cabinets and your work surface beautifully. There are so many beautiful tiles out there..here are some lovely examples..im not sure what your style is but here a few options ... Good luck with it! hope it turns out well!

The concrete looks great and I love the greens sofa's. I'm sure I seen concrete look tiles on www.porcelaintilewarehouse.co.uk. You have much more space than I have, we had to build the seating because a table and chairs would have been squashed. My dad built it, it's just wood strapping bolted to the walls then covered in plywood, then we carried the flooring over it and used chrome trim for the edges. We put the floor down after we built it so if we have to change the floor we don't have to remove the seating. The covers got made from a friend who put 100mm of foam in in, on the back foam is MDF ( covered) to make it rigid. It's really comfy and we picked a slightly ribbed material as my kids sit here for dinner, the rib makes the fabric a bit tougher when it comes to wiping spills so it still looks the same as when it went in. I'd be happy to lift the covers off and show you how it's constructed but it's just like caravan seating in the way built.

Thank you! You brought up some really good points. The reason we were leaning towards the gray was for a number of reasons. The main reason being that gray will be easier to keep clean when we have kids, which we could be completely wrong about. (don't have kids yet) The longevity of the cabinet color is most important to me. I don't want to have to do another kitchen rehab in 5 years because the gray is dated. The white also gives us more options for granite. I do hope the white will open up the kitchen. I want to keep things light and airy.

Why don't you and your associates include prices for assembly? Many of us do not have the capabilities to accomplish assembly.

I vote for a LIGHT grey. If you are painting this should be an option. I like grey cabinets vs white for the 'niceness' of hiding a little dirt that your white cabinets will show right away. And I'm a grey fan in general, but there are lots of shades of grey (more than 50 for sure!) so just be sure you have the shade you want, that'll compliment your floors, etc.

I would replace just the upper doors where you have the arch, you can use a cheaper wood since you are painting them anyways. The cathedral arch will keep dating your kitchen no matter what the color. Good luck! How exciting to have a new home!!

I vote white, and remove the "lone" cabinet by the arched doorway.

I would go white but I wouldnt do the gray spotty granite which is a entry level granite. Id do the quartz. even of its solid white quartz. Or do a quartz or a white granite that looks like Carrera.

navy blue is the new gray. ditch the gray. do blue lowers if you want two tone. do a bluish/gray if you still want a little gray. then do gold hardware.

So exiting for you! Congrats on your new house Elesia!!

Here are my opinions , & some ideas,

1. Personally I am partial to a white kitchen & in your poll voted white:

We are 3/4 of the way completed with a reno of our new mostly 'WHITE' kitchen {the floor tile is dark gray & white w/dark gray grout, backsplash tile white w/grout light gray, floor moldings are dark wood. Everything else is in the room is white from cabinets to countertop to backsplash, & we also used white the subway.}.

2. Gray more trendy/could look outdated sooner if you care about that or not:

I agree with what a few others have said about white being a lot less trendy in the long run than gray. Although white has indeed been a 'trend' too but will always be a classic. As for gray, probably not so much.

3. White Enlarges:

Your kitchen looks to my eye to be a bit rectangular in shape, and due to the narrower dimension white will make it look even larger, not to mention brighter. {some of the reasons I did my own kitchen in white --its small 12'x12' and on the northern dark side of the house. If yours is also on the north side too {is it?} that could be another reason on the side of choosing 'white'.

4. How about painting only 'the walls' a gray:

but on the lighter side of gray, to still keep it looking light & large? That way you can have your timeless white cabinets and still have your beloved gray? Perhaps this might be a way to have your cake and eat it too! You could also add other touches of gray elsewhere, such as in your window treatments and an area rug too if you like. That way you can always eliminate the gray if you ever get tired of it.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around why people still think gray is a trend. I’ve heard that opinion for several years now.. We chose a light gray (Anew by SW) cabinet with white marble like quartz, white matte subway tile and a reclaimed wood island. The only difference between our kitchens is we have a ton of natural light. You could try a lighter gray. And btw, we chose light gray because we have 3 boys and 2 shepherds. I think white would have been too much maintenance for us!

It's only because it happens to be a popular neutral color choice now - and apparently it has been, for a while. Frankly I would not even know that except everyone here on Houzz says it is. LOL. But I get what you are saying...I have always preferred gray as a neutral - cannot stand the beige/tan/cream look. It really just comes down to different strokes. Some like it warm...and some prefer cooler.

Wish I could show you a finished kitchen but we’re right in the middle of our project. Appliance color was another factor in our light gray decision, they are GE Slate.

Ha, yes, I found out when I started coming here that I did our bathroom and part of our basement in trendy gray..8 years ago! I've been on pinterest for a while looking at different grays for the bathroom since the woodwork didn't turn out like I wanted and it's been driving me nuts for so long- was so pleased there were a lot of pictures..then I realized why haha!

But-I like gray so..whatever floats your boat!

I will also add that I dig the navy cabinets above.

@Mags E I'm loving your kitchen already. I'm concerned that the white will be hard to keep clean. We hope to have kids in the near future and have 65lb doodle. So I'm just not sure how we will keep up with all the white. By the way that quartz looks amazing!

@Beth I love, love, love that navy blue. I think it would be too dark for our already dark kitchen but that is color palette i wont to go with when we reno our master bath! Thats a completely different project, but i want our vanity to be navy with silver accents throughout!

@artsyphartsy_home_maker you made some solid points! My kitchen is small and kind of dark. I know the white will open it up the most.

@luckyblueeye good point about the arch cabinet doors. I'll have to look into pricing on changing those out!

I would stick to white cabinets, but consider wood chopping block for countertops. It looks great with grey and will warm up the space.

Thanks. I love butcher block, but my husband thinks they require a lot of upkeep...is that true?
