Can't decide on flooring for my kitchen.
Comments (7)If you're going for vinyl, choose a stone or tile effect. One with grout lines look more realistic than a completely flat pattern. Stone will contrast nicely with the wooden flooring and work top. My new kitchen will be similar to yours, I had wanted black and white tiles(50's diner look) and my husband, terracotta. In the end we chose limestone effect sheet vinyl. As we are both clumsy and quite often drop stuff. A cast iron pan dropped on the kitchen floor will probably dent it but survive intact, the same with mugs....See Morestill can't decide... room layout help
Comments (7)there will be bi-folds across the back with a extending canopy so the idea is that when the weather is nice, we can dine outside on the patio. To be honest, in our last house we had a similar setup with the lounge at the back but we ended up replacing the dining table with another sofa as we mainly used the breakfast bar to eat and dine at. Never once used the table, ha ha. Jonathan - we had considered gas but to get a decent one, they were 3 times the price of the log burner and we prefer the real heat we get from it vs the gas one. Fine as a second option in the lounge though if we did put it at the back. We would still want the wood-burner in the chimney though. isn't it hard to decide! ha ha. No obvious choice between the two except my husband thinks having a dining area a waste of space - hence why I was happy to move it to a smaller area....See MoreCan’t decide on light or dark floor in bathroom
Comments (29)Hi Tommy-LEE, both the light and dark tiles you’ve shown look very good. My old bathroom, I put in dark grey whilst my bathroom now, I’ve got light grey. Both bathrooms have a lot of light and light and dark both worked well. The biggest difference for me is actually maintenance as in how dirt and watermark shows up. We’re a barefoot household with two dogs and I like to maintain almost like a 5 star hotel. Somehow light grey doesn’t show up dirt as much when we vacuum just once a week. With the dark grey tiles, I had to vacuum more frequently, which isn’t great as I work long hours during the week. Apart from the colour, the difference between the tiles is that the dark tiles we had was smooth and light one we’ve now is more concrete like with texture. That might be a reason. In addition to the look, if ongoing maintenance is something you’d like to optimise, worth taking account how the colour and texture affects it....See MoreHelp deciding between two kitchen plans please
Comments (12)So.. tweaked your second layout a bit to try and improve the looks and lines. Hence the island is smaller. Plus side: the dishwasher won't be such a triphazard when open. With kids walking around (aka suddenly behind you ninja style) you want some freedom of movement. Upper units on the sink wall. Free hanging range hood above the stove (or built in oven and cooktop?). Symmetrical drawers alongside stove. Plates, bowls, cutlery next to sink, close to dishwasher. Trash bin below sink. Tip: Pick 3 drawer type base units, add a blind shallow drawer in the lowest drawer of the 91cm unit, great for small stuff. The drawer is too deep to fill up anyway (will become too heavy)....See MoreEmily
