Colour Choice Dilemma - Odd Shaped (Top Floor Flat Living Room)
Comments (12)Hello Tom, I think it could be a very relaxing and inviting room - A mid century style sofa with legs would be ideal (Think mad men and stylish!) ... Something less solid and thus the feel is more open within the flooring spatially.. A 3 seater and perhaps two chairs.. Something that would work well with your chosen scheme (grey or other)... Perhaps have the sofa facing that little window wall with some chairs opposite.. So there's less of a "tunnel" You could then have a different shaped coffee table.. I'd suggest the less solid idea with any cabinetry like a console or sideboard.. Small cabinets.. Anything with legs! Even a wardrobe is a nice element in a living room.. Storage for crockery etc or the flat screen for example or projector.. Given the height, you could afford to have a larger ceiling light fitting here and why not have a look at Ebay. There are some really fantastic finds for vintage and interesting.. I'd bring the glass table out of that window recess a bit further... So it could be a multi- functioning table... Working, eating, socialising.. You may find then you don't need the other wooden table.. Chairs are other good finds on ebay or perhaps a visit to an antiques fair or two.. Mirrors could be interesting here too with the slope of the ceiling curve.. Plain and square.. if at all and hung on an angle reflects light downward.. especially good with a dark scheme... Now on to some colour... You might want to take inspiration from the rug too.. but I rather like the earthy grey or that which has brown in it.. You could introduce rust colours to compliment and then the light whiter colours for the ceiling half could be off whites and with slight yellows.. Little Greene has lovely colours.. Very chalky and dense.. For whites.. Whitening, White lead, Ceviche is nice, stone colours. Grey moss and Furrow for earthy greys. For rich grey Scree is lovely. Bring the wood work into the scheme too.. It makes for a fabulous finish.. Consider too on that rear wall (behind second sofa) a very large mirror to lean up against the wall.. Something like 8 x 6ft if you can get something sizey into the space.. Or a series of long narrow mirrors leant up against could do. If you decided to go with a dark colour this could work as it offsets the colour, bounces the light back into the room and offers a visually interesting element and spatially it makes the room twice the size whatever the size... A few ideas off the top of my head.. : ))...See MoreDesign dilemma #living room
Comments (36)Hello. I've been reading about rugs and allergies and decided to have a go with either jute or polypropylene rug, which should be fine in my circumstances. I wander if this designs are a bit too crowded for my space: http://m.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350020090?docid=221816 http://m.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350039225?docid=221816# This is my favourite so far but they don't have the larger sizes available: http://m.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-324515229?docid=221816# Or this?: http://m.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-324152642?docid=221816#searchkeyword=jute rug Tomorrow I will post some pics of the room at present. It's been used as a playground so it's not great but.. Hopefully you will help me find a nice rug to add :)...See MoreLiving room paint dilemma
Comments (15)I've just come back from a chum's house who wanted decor help. I'm not a professional in any way, shape or form, but she likes the way I've decorated my house and wanted my input. Her current sitting room has a long feature wall papered in deep red, with cream walls on the other walls. The red is dark and light sapping so glad it is going. She has bought curtains and wallpaper in a white/grey/green/lemon country style design. She needed help choosing a nice neutral for the rest. We finally chose Dulux Polished Pebble (a pale grey with a tiny hint of green). I also liked Dulux Swansdown, an even paler grey which was my preferred one. Maybe have a look at these two? You have quite a lot of elements going on so I would stick with something pale and neutral. I love the fireplace as it is by the way!...See MoreA jiggle and a zhoosh... Comments (12)hi i can see what you mean. our new extention created a dark end to a pretty bright North West facing room, i dubbed it the Josef Fritzel wing. For me the issue is not the colour of your walls, it's the natural light distribution. Its a long dark tunnel at bottom end. What about adding a glass door and glass insert above the door frame at the dark end of the room. Graded tones of any colour would work better being lighter at the darkest end of the room then working back from that. We replaced all our internal doors with full length glass ones, ans got builders to increase even more by adding glass above door frames up to ceilings in 3 door ways. I estimate this added 15% more light into the room, and also adding a pkeasing dimention, in that as the sun moves around the house, it casts its light in key areas thru' the day. Perhaps explore the possibility of a light well tube thingy in the ceiling that casts natural pools of light into the darker areas ( always better than artificial). Plants that favour shade and some low energy LED practical lights rather than in the ceiling might add some life to it as well. One the light issue is sorted, the colours can be thought thru'...See MoreSassy G
