Hallway lighting ideas please
Comments (17)Hi, Landing and loft conversion looks good, next tricky part will be picking the pendant you want. Please may I ask, have you opted for an electric velux window blind or have you simply left the window without a blind because the positioning of the window doesn't need a blind for privacy. Just something else I am thinking about. Hope the knocking down of the wall went well, I bet the space feels massive now. Thanks for asking. I am adding an extension to the kitchen with a little utility and toilet at the end. knocking the wall down between kitchen and diner to make open plan. Downstairs bathroom is becoming third bedroom. Upstairs I am adding a dormer at the back to make a bigger second bedroom and adding dormer to the front for bathroom which also means a new small landing. New central heating, retire etc. also changes outside garage has gone ready for a new one to be built. Attached are photos of my hallway, first is at top of stairs before little hallway extra was added second is the start of new hallway, walls coming out for bathroom door which is wher dormer will be the planning on putting the velux next to it. All very exciting stuff, I'm not the most imaginative so it's difficult to imagine what it will all look like in the end where to put lights etc, similar to you really...See MoreDark wood hallway ideas?
Comments (12)Hi we specialise in period detailing and panelling and staircases particularly in oak. I will attempt to give you some suggestions from our point of view. //Panelling// My first thought is to keep all of the panelling but to add a bit more style to it which could easily be achieved by adding a simple mouding around the panel as shown below, you can easily source mouldings from a local hardware shop. You could also add a Dado moulding and run it along the top rail of the panelling that goes up the staircase this would make the panelling look really nice. I would then prime and paint all of the panelling in a light colour to give the entrance a lighter feel. create a coat rack area in the porch with a small bench for taking of shoes and it would look like a really inviting entrance hall! //Staircase// Again I think the staircase would look really good painted or stripped and whitewashed like a scandinavian style pine floor, this would lighten the whole area. I really like it when staircases are painted except the handrail however It would need to be stained and polished to look like a contrasting dark hardwood. If you were thinking of installing a new traditional style staircase there would be a cheaper option which would be to clad the strings and posts and replace the hand rail and turnings for oak versions. However I personally would be painting it or whitewashing it and adding mouldings here and there if you need to. good luck!! Comments (0)Hubby is an engineer and whilst he is too busy doing what he does... I am fed up with his stuff in the hall. He won't put them in the garage because - as he says - they may be needed.... So...Having moved them out of a kitchen cupboard to the hall... My dilemma is how can I box them in too compliment my hall table? Or... Where else can I move them to without causing grief to the 'man' LOL.......See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Landing, stairs, hallway decorating ideas
Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See Morekikiamack
