The linen works. I have the blue version, it's effing expensive (my SO who had idea sheets before meeting me was mind blown) BUT it is the softest most glorious linen I've ever owned. Truely beautiful to sleep under and look at

Kathryn, we use a 13.5 because our house is seriously cold but we have a house in France which also gets cold in winter and use a 10.5 there. I don't notice much difference between them to be honest. Here the 4.5 summer one only comes out for three months. We managed for many many years without the luxury of a lighter one so certainly not essential, after all how often do we gave a real heatwave in this country? What you must do with a natural filling is to give it a good shake every day so it puffs up well. More air, more insulation = more warmth. And of course when you have such a lovely duvet you do need good cotton sheets and covers to finish it off. I tend to use the White Company for those. If you get tempted by White Company duvets my advice is that JL are much better. I got a couple for our spare rooms and really notice the difference in feel and extra weight even though they're the same tog as the JL ones.

And that makes perfect sense of course - I didn't even think about the person inside the bed :) My bedding is all bespoke - mostly so I can get a good match for fabrics on sheets/pillowcases/duvet covers, etc. and so I can get an old fashioned tuck on all the sheets (flat top and bottom) of 12 inches all round.
