Concrete satin-finish bathrooms
Comments (0)Hi there, I am looking for someone who can help me fit a bathroom, with concrete floors, table tops and walls. I want to then apply a satin finish using cemcrete (South Africa's) satincrete over it which gives it a satin gloss finish. It looks like I need some who can fit bathrooms, and also do very decent plasterwork. It's not a high end job, but needs to be done very tidy. Area: Abingdon, Oxfordshire...See MoreWhat do you think about concrete bathroom and kitchen?
Comments (5)Hello Pelagia, I must say I love concrete and it works in both kitchens and bathrooms beautifully! Textured or smooth. Plaster too is an absolute favourite as is terrazzo and all would work together. I would like to suggest these ideas which I think compliment. The other thing of course is to consider how you can carry concrete throughout to create a seamless home. So it forms a coherent material language if you will. It doesn't have to be in large ways it could be in the form of accessories, for example. This first image is mine and includes walls, flooring and worktop to compliment what is actually brass cabinetry with some mid century brass table/chairs and Murano glass. The idea behind it is to create a room in its own right. That is less "kitcheny" in visual appearance and more a functioning beautiful space that you could entertain in as much as you could cook in. Size being key here, of course. You could add concrete shelving etc but I have left the scheme as is to fit the aesthetic. This is just one half of a much larger room but you get the idea. This second I found on the web. I am not partial to mirrored cabinetry but the bathroom has lovely qualities which I think compliment my kitchen design. Some ideas for you to consider. Beautiful accessories and natural earthy elements compliment wonderfully as do a mix of materials, wood, slate and stone. Either way, enjoy what you decide. Comments (33)MATH the terracotta panels ( Ladrillos panelas) are very brittle so I doubt if topping a wall with them would be that good they are okay in suspended ceilings, shelves and similar but on a wall top you would definitely need to render them quite thickly. The dimensions you give work out to 60 cubic metres so I see why you want an alternative to blocks, casting concrete or using lava. I had a google for Spanish concrete panels along the lines of gravel boards, don't know if you speak any Spanish so it's more or less 'panelas de hormigon', I can't find anything useful on Spanish Google at the moment but next week I have to go to my local builders merchant so I'll ask him if he has any ideas....See Moretiled skirting in a bathroom - using wall or floor tiles?
Comments (3)On top of the skirting? No way! I think that would look awful. Far too bulky in a sleek designed room. We have an ensuite which has the wall tiles sitting on top of the floor tiles to give the impression of more of a wet room effect. We also have a main bathroom and in here have the floor tiles cut to the size of the skirting that was originally in there height wise and then placed on top of the floor tiles So one room has nothing and the other room has the floor tiles up the wall as a skirting....See MoreLignacite
