Help with my dull lounge!
Comments (37)Hi there, We think you have created a lovely lounge, and you should be very proud of what you have done so far as it has been put together very tastefully. The only thing we think you are missing to complete the look and add character are those all important Accessories! Often forgotten and always missed when they are. Looking at your Blue and Neutral colour scheme we would recommend introducing a contemporary cream rug by Eichholtz, select the dimension that will be big enough for the front feet of the sofa to ideally fit onto the rug! https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/eichholtz-wilton-rug.html We would also recommend adding a touch of colour by painting your fireplace wall in Parma Grey by Farrow & Ball. Then.... what the room would really benefit with is a pair of paintings or limited edition prints. I have included a pair that we have available of Orchids to show you the idea in the quick collage that we have created for you. https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/home-accessories/art-and-antiques/prints/kelly-cutter-orchid-print.html We hope this helps and if you would like to find out about some of these ideas or products please do give us a call and one of our designers would be happy to assist you! 01386 711512. Comments (9)To throw another idea into the pot: there are some lovely spaces and opportunities for views here, but furniture is oddly arranged and blocks the flow. If the dining table were to be centred in the dining area, dropping a light to pool onto the table, it would create a convivial atmosphere for eating, and a clear view of the garden for everyone. Plus, all the chairs can be used. This area would then feel more of a 'room', and less of a 'walk-through'. The new doorway then naturally leads through and frames the view to the garden. Instead of blocking this with the back of the sofa, place it along the rhs wall near the bedroom. For this size of space, I would probably choose two comfortable, low-backed, armchairs instead of a sofa. This gives you much more flexibility and you can either push them close together, facing the sofa with a rug/coffee table between, in sofa style, or position them at right angles near the left hand corner, perhaps with a lamp table squaring them off. You also then have the option of placing the sofa directly in front of the large window in the winter when the garden is bleak, with a chair either side, facing the log burner. Assuming you want to primarily use this room for chilling out with TV, I'd put the TV in the top lh corner. This location prevents the summer sun reflecting off the screen, and you will have the benefit of being able to watch it while eating and within the flexible seating arrangements. Alternatively, seeing the fire while dining creates a cosy atmosphere and you could swap it round. Ideally, plan the location of the TV and fire around your family lifestyle, this is matter of preference and there is an argument for both. I hope this helps; you're creating a lovely, useable space - good luck!...See MoreHelp making living room more cosy
Comments (8)I would definitely do away with the red wall. Could wallpaper or paint the wall the tv stands along to make a feature wall and keep the other walls neutral/lighter colour. Introduce colour in accessories, picked out from the paper/colour you've chosen for the feature wall. Definitely get lamps and add some new textures in cushions n curtains. If your thinking of getting new sofa could consider a corner sofa to put where the existing sofa is on the red wall and move the tv down to the corner where the window is, putting the tv unit at an angle, not up against the wall. This could leave space on the feature wall to introduce a fire, if you don't have enough room for fire place could get a modern wall mounted one. If you do this move the mirror to hang above the fire on the feature wall....See MorePlease help me make my lounge a contemporary space
Comments (6)I'm at the end of renovating a whole house and if you're anything at all like me you are probably skint by now! And like you I'm running low on ideas too. Looking at your room I might be tempted to temporarily finish it off by not spending too much money and have it ready for Christmas telly lounging! Then maybe next year (or later ) when you're up for it finish off however you're inspired. So I'd put Ikea shelves above the TVs and paint all of it dark. Having said that I've got loads of books and they always make rooms look good! I'd also keep the fire for now and put book shelves low down the wall and put plenty of artwork above....See MoreJuliet Docherty
