Comments (29)I've just thought of a new one. There are quite a few more feminine oriented topics and articles in here which is totally understandable given the demographics and followers, but I think it would be nice to have an article on styling a bachelor pad for us male fans of design. Not necessarily cliche ones with interiors showing pool tables, photos of cars and gadgets as not all men are gadget obsessed, just a good quality article showing more masculine colour themes, textures etc. I'm always inspired by interiors by Tom Ford, Natuzzi and Bo Concept as good examples....See MoreCan our home fulfil our specialised needs?
Comments (12)I am sensing that as always, what we all want is one thing and paying for it all is another. With that in mind, how about some modest but achievable changes? Alter the existing bathroom by removing the separate WC and Block up that door. Make that space the walk in shower with a glass panel and now you can fit a solid polycarbonate shower floor that fits flush with the tiles/floor covering. With the separating wall removed, reset the WC pan and redecorate the bathroom to be one harmonius but useable room. Next, remove bedroom 3 completely and use that space for a new staircase up to a loft conversion. In the loft, simply board and line out the loft space leaving the roof as it is and fit several Velux roof lights. Make the space to a large bedroom and an open plan ensuite with a bath and source a good long one for you to enjoy. Have a Velux above the bath, another over the stairs and maybe one or two overhead above your bed. Now outside, a new, full size and vaulted roof conservatory full of light and space opening onto a new wide patio. As for the front door...costs mean it staying where it is but a new path and fence would help and carry it around to the patio. It is not the most perfect plan and will still cost a good £40/50,000 but it would make a big difference. Remember door widths in all this for future convenience..my Dad was in a wheelchair and it was a big help. So....I hope this gives a few more ideas without being impossible to implement!...See MoreHouzz Live Chat - Get your garden ready for summer, May 15th at 3pm
Comments (143)Hello donned2004, Well you could remove all the things from the hearth.. So it has more space.. Hang the mirror and paint the chimney breast a nice colour to bring the fireplace into full focus.. If you wanted to have an even bigger recess.. you could open the fire out up to the sides of the wooden surround.. So taking out the 30's tiles.. Make sure the lintel is in place or doesn't need replacing and keep the surround it's rather nice.. Remove the current tiled hearth if you chose to open it out more.. and install a flat piece of slate.. So then you would have an open brick recess and a lovely iron basket could sit nicely inside for logs! Another idea to continue into the room.. might be to look at painting the woodwork a colour to compliment any wall colours you have.... Some lovely painted floorboards, or parquet or a natural Jute or Coir flooring if you have not already decided upon something.. : ))...See MoreHouzz Advent Calendar: December 24th - Win a Heal's winter candle!
Comments (69)I know entries are closed but I just wanted to add to my comments that, despite not being able to take part this year (poorly), 35 people who would have been alone in the village today are feasting and having fun in my Church Hall. The room looked splendid last night and we have a great chef and team of helpers. I do know that others from Church have 'scooped up' people they know to offer them a wonderful Christmas Day in their homes. So it doesn't have to be a Churchy thing! These initiatives are also happening around the Country and not just at Christmas. WHAT ON EARTH HAS THIS GOT TO DO WITH HOUZZ?, you ask. Well - you've got some lovely homes out there - I've seen them! Open up! HC&HNY to all....See MoreARC Bespoke Interiors
