design ideas for a very small house
Comments (43)hi, I agree that turning the kitchen into ensuite bedroom is a smart move, as the current layout means that you have to walk from the kitchen (with the meals) through the bathroom? Or maybe there's another access, but still open plan kitchen / sitting / dining room would work better. They often say, when buying furniture for a small space, choose the ones with built in storage (bed base with sliding drawers, puffs that open up, built in wardrobes if possible, etc.). Also when choosing tables, don't go for chunky pieces, but buy the glass ones, with thin legs, so they create the effect of bigger space. fix few mirros on the walls? Maybe large wall to floor mirror in one place (if you can stand them!). Plenty of shelving, tall, but slim units would work best. Also have you got a loft in the house? you can keep some of the stuff there. Last port of call is always just to rent a storage unit (you can find surprisingly cheap ones these days), and store the stuff you don't use every day. Lovely house and location btw!...See MoreLarge garden, small house or small garden, big house?
Comments (74)Large gardens are all well and good if have the energy & ability and you can afford the time (or money) for maintenance, but it's not always ideal. Comments (10)In an ideal world the doors opening would be 1200mm allowing both appliances side by side with a deep worktop over and sorting shelves on the long length ... but as this isn’t the case - stacked on one side, turned 90degrees, sounds the best option - as to have both appliances facing each other on each end of the cupboard won’t give you enough crouch room between them. Alternatively - look at the actual appliances and see if, for example , if the dryer was on the left and the washer on the right - could the doors open and any other access points ( like powder drawer) be opened within the 1100 opening area . If the washer and dryer were on castors* so it can be moved easily for servicing etc this might still work. * the castors that are made for laundry appliances to usually go front to back - but used to go left and right instead ....See MoreSmall 6x9 garden ideas
Comments (10)Third time lucky! The most awkward bit is the steps because you need access, so if budget allows I think a raised platform with steps down on one side may work. Something like the photo below. My first thought was replace the grass with a circular patio, creating a courtyard vibe. If it’s sunny there, then even better. The bamboo looks great and seem to create excellent privacy. You can then add shade loving plants such as Japanese Maples, Hydrangeas and Ferns. Sunnier spots can be planted up with roses, lavender, grasses and hardy Geraniums. Here’s some ideas...See MoreBeks -
