I know this CAN be a fabulous room ... I just lost my way a little
Comments (660)So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!...See MorePlease help me ,i am lost,Need help with my living room
Comments (9)I agree with Red80 re furniture layout. There are lots of good things in this room, I just personally find the cushions and blinds clash with the chandelier and wallpaper. I would swap the 2 geometric cushions for softer patterns in lighter grey/white/duck egg. I'd get something with different textures as the cushions fabrics look the same atm? Add accessories to your coffee table, maybe just a pile of books, a vase of flowers, and an "ornament" in wood/ceramic/pewter etc again for texture. When budget allows swap the blinds for Roman blinds. Try blinds 2 go or Tuiss which is their sister company if you're in the UK. I can't remember the exact price but I got pure silk Roman blinds for 2 really large windows for c£450 which sounds a bargain to me although not yet up:) I agree the mirror is a little high. If you can, without leaving a hole on show in the wallpaper, I'd lower it as long as it doesn't reflect the tv! I'm not sure the pics to the left of the window work as they're obscured by the curtains. Perhaps also a taller vase/pot in the blue for the tv cabinet to detract from the tv a little more? Alternatively you could change the wallpaper and the mirror to give the room a contemporary rather than classical feel...See MoreFront door, entrance from pavement.
Comments (5)You have a lovely modern house but the lack of privacy and aspect onto the neighbours rubbish bin could easily be addressed by building a solid wall with an oversized entrance gate or a modern trellis. The inside of the wall facing your large window would look amazing if you installed a living wall system. These are very easy to install and come in panels which are screwed onto a substrate. You could select plants that would thrive in the heat. This would give you privacy without having to look out onto a solid wall. I found this website which had some good images. http://treebox.co.uk/products/easiwall-green-wall.html http://treebox.co.uk/products/easiwall-green-wall.html...See MoreHELP! Comments (1)Can you do a room plan, with sizes and position of Window? I think you're going to have to section off the 'Office' from the lounge. Maybe you could use a moveable bookcase. An 'Office in a Cupboard' is a great practical way of hiding the office for when you want to use the room in the evenings as a lounge. The rug is too small. It needs to stretch from slightly under the front of the sofa to just in front of the T.V Unit. Add colour with it and a good thick one with texture. Currently there's nothing above the T.V unit or the Sofa, which are at low levels. Maybe hanging standard lamps to match, one behind the sofa, one in the corner by the T/V unit :- Made.com Sweep lamp Just needs a wee re-jig and a bit of 'plushing up'. A footstool in a bright colour would also help to make the seating area look more comfy. Or an ottoman for the sofa with matching footstool for the chair? Anyway, if you can post a room plan it does help a lot with the re-positioning....See More- 6 years ago
