Living Room Help Needed =/

Hi Everyone,

I am in the middle of redecorating my living room. I have recently painted the chimney and alcove in a slate grey colour. I love scandinavian designs and am wondering how to bring this room alive? I have looked through so many magazines and pictures online but am begining to feel stuck as the sofa and grey wall are a similar shade. I'm wondering what colour combinations will go? Any suggestion on soft furnishings, cushion cover colours, rugs, coffee tables as i still need to buy these?

Also I'm not sure about my room lay out, alcoves and the size of the sofa's. Any advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated as I'm new to this and have no previous experience in home decor.

First and fourth pic is the view from the front door. Second and third pic is the view from outside living room.

These are the sofa's in the above photos. The flooring will be natural oak.

I think you’ve made a great start. I really like the shade of grey you’ve chosen. Pretty much any colour works well with grey - teal, yellow, orange, red, pink, mustard - which you can use sparingly if you’re worried about going overboard. Think about adding some texture in rugs, throws and cushions if you don’t want too much colour. Oak floor would be good & I’d definitely include some other wooden elements so long as they don’t clash with your floor - could be just a few photo frames or lamp bases rather than furniture. A large plant or two will add a bit of life as well.

I have a slight aversion to kitchen islands and any thing high that resembles a breakfast bar - I have no idea why - maybe because of the linear quality and I'm quite keen to keep the openness rather than section the room off, but I do really like the sofa arrangement in the corner - thanks so much for your time and input

I tried to place furniture in your room, but do not know where is window or not. So I got what I got. I am sure the round dining table will be better. I just did not have it in my software. Try to move two sofas on different direction. may be both on the corner would be better. Round table is on other corner.

Hi Chelsey, That's a lovely big space! I have put together a floor plan option for you with the sofa opposite your fireplace and a cosy reading area by the window. Depending on where exactly your fireplace is located, you can create a lovely contemporary composition with your TV. Have a look at the quick model I have put together. You've made a great start, I love those walls! I think it would look fantastic with an accent colour. Do you like orange or metallic copper tones?
