Floor tiles and skirting
Comments (3)You can get beading to cover any gaps where the tile meets the skirting (we did this when fitting wood floors) however it was not what I wanted and if I'm honest still bugs me 6 years later but we couldn't get the skirting off with out wrecking the walls. I'm and almost finished extending and renovating my kitchen and we've tiled then put skirting on. It looks so much better. I suppose it depends who is at fault for fitting the skirting before putting the floors down, if it's your builder then I'd be tempted to insist they remove the skirting and make good....See MoreWooden flooring or Amtico wood look flooring
Comments (13)If considering wood you could get unfinished wood installed. Companies such as Wood Floor Accessories are a great supplier. Having it finished on site means a finish can be picked that works for your home. Each home has variables such as pets, different traffic and the owners desire to maintain the flooring or aversion to maintenance. Having wood finished on site has advantages. You can pick the highest quality product that works for your budget. The range of finishes available is quite wide. A professional company will try to understand your home and recommend the appropriate finish. They will also understand how easily the finish was can be renovated in the future. Amtico is an extremely robust product but being plastic, is just plastic flooring. It has its place, as does wood. In areas that have plenty of light surfaces, scratches show very easily on Amtico, Karndean etc. The manufacturers push a polishing maintenance product on consumers. However, this needs to be stripped and reapplied on a regular basis....See Moretiled skirting in a bathroom - using wall or floor tiles?
Comments (3)On top of the skirting? No way! I think that would look awful. Far too bulky in a sleek designed room. We have an ensuite which has the wall tiles sitting on top of the floor tiles to give the impression of more of a wet room effect. We also have a main bathroom and in here have the floor tiles cut to the size of the skirting that was originally in there height wise and then placed on top of the floor tiles So one room has nothing and the other room has the floor tiles up the wall as a skirting....See MoreUneven gaps between skirting and flooring
Comments (17)I had the same issue. Not helped by my flooring experts being absolute cowboys. The gaps were sometimes quite wide. I selected a silicone colour that was similar to the flooring. I decided using white silicone would create a more obvious unevenness. The skirting boards are straight so using white would have made them noticeably vary. It is the floor that has the issue, and it is at the floor level I wanted to disguise it. So I have a brown silicone. It is actually very useful for keeping out drafts and it gives insects no place to hide. Just use masking tape on the bottom of the skirting and along the floor. Run your silicone and then pull away the tape to give yourself a clean finish. Anyone can do it....See Moresophiepumpkin
