Small living room / diner is a blank canvas... help!
Comments (5)Hey, Gemma. How's it going? Are you able to post some more pictures of the space, so we can see it from other angles and how it ties to other rooms (especially the kitchen)? Also, forgive me for asking, but where is the current dining table? Your eye is similar to mine in the choices you made and my living/ dining area is similar so I can certainly relate. It's difficult to know where to start because you're lucky enough to have a blank slate. I think all your ideas are good. I know you're changing your sofa which is good as the chaise element blocks the eye's flow to the light/ window. Something with long legs, with 2 seats - possible a loveseat - would also help to minimise the footprint. I agree with the paint colours. I'd probably paint the whole wall, in case you wanted to change things around at some point. It can also be very difficult to pull off, and especially with varying lights. How would you like the split to be between the dining and living areas? In one of your ideabook photos you have the 'zones' approach at 50/50 but I'm not sure if that's something you were going to carry through or whether the dining space would play a less prominent role. All that said, I think all your ideas are spot on and the space promises to look great....See MoreToo bold for small space?
Comments (18)I love the blue and think you could pull it off. I think you should aim to make most of the 'extras' white with a little black - eg curtains/blinds in white, pictures maybe try and stick with stuff with plenty of white space and have all the mounts white and the frames either white or thin black frames. I don't know what the splodgy thing on the wall in your design is but I think that's the one thing which doesn't go with the room. I really like the other colours you've chosen for the sofa / chair / cushions but maybe skip the patterned cushions. Clean lines and blocks of colour tend to work best with very strong colours - when you start mixing pattern and bright colours it can quite quickly become overwhelming. Ideally perhaps the kitchen could also be white with a black or grey worktop. You can paint the kitchen white but it's a fair bit of work. If you decide it's too much of the wall colour, I would consider making a wide horizontal band around the room rather than feature walls. It will look more unusual and I think better than feature walls would. I would paint from 1/4 of the way up the wall to 1/4 of the way down from the top, so half the wall....See MoreHelp needed to decorate my small playroom/spare room (pretty please)
Comments (16)yes I like the jungle idea possibly, though not sure if should keep with ivy as it matches whats currently there.. , not sure about the shelves or seating by the TV though. In the room next door there is an an 8 seater table, and a kitchen island, so its not as though this is the only place to have seating I guess. I like the ideas of natural look, almost Japanese, bamboo, bringing the garden in, just having difficulty with which wall colours, what to do with the post? keep white or make a colourful feature of it, and also what colour sofa bed, rug, paint on the walls to make everything blend in. It's so difficult, can't go for a lightish sofa, as it would just get too dirty, but I'm open to all ideas and very very much appreciate both yours and Rukmini's I have no idea how to put a room pic together like that so it helps massively. They have a lot of friends round, so a comfy rug /beanbags are also great, as long as we can also put them somewhere away too, so they're not in the way...See Moredark paint on stair case? what colour on walls?
Comments (24)It's interesting the mention of Insta. We were talking about this the other day - what looks good on a tiny square does not necessarily translate to real life. Things need to have impact on a small square to draw the eye, but in real life you need to live in a space and feel comfortable. I think we have all been sucked in at times! Anyway, Forza's previous mention about Skimming Stone is a good one. Greys tend to be blue based, green based or violet based. Blue based can look urban and tend towards cool, green based or violet based may be the way to go. Little Greene Slaked Lime is good, Skimming Stone woodwork, Elephants Breath walls Farrow and Ball etc....See MoreCarolina
