Kitchen Benchtops

Has anyone used Wilsonart Concrete Laminate for their kitchen benchtops ? I am hoping to have white shaker cabinets, I have a royal blue range cooker and would like a concrete look benchtop. I will also be softening the grey benchtop with a timber slab just on a small breakfast bar / part of an island.

Hi Jodie don't know about Wilsonart. Caesarstone "Rugged Concrete" is a great choice for a soft grey benchtop with white cabinetry!

Hi Jodi haven't used the Wilsonart concrete, but have used both Egger Light Concrete and Dark Concrete both look really good with white.

Hi Laura, thanks for posting. Wow, it looks amazing! Amazing how much difference the floor, splashback and mirror make, it's transformed. Well done. I'm struggling to like a splashback in my new kitchen (even though I chose it) so was looking for inspiration - my partner just doesn't get it and will probably leave me if I even dare to mention changing it :-)

Tough cookie. The footprint size is nice, but with a 6p family you'll need enough room to move around. If a loft can be added to the new part of the house, that'd be nice for storage. Folding stairs in the wardrobe? In the extension: First I'd like to say I imagined the extension to be designed like a house on it's own, glued together to the old one with a flat roofed 'corridor' with lots of rooflights. Main entry with wardrobe on the side. Kitchen with shallow cabinets on the front of the peninsula (storage instead of barstools) and row of floor to ceiling cabinets with a built-in 178cm fridge and a 178cm freezer, ovens, etc. Family dining area with french doors towards the back garden. Also managed to get each kid their own bedroom. Their bathroom has a shower and a toilet stall and two sinks. Separate toilet, for morning queues (and guests). No tub in the layout though, I don't know if you'd like one and what age your kids are.. Backdoor to enter the home (with your boots on) near the hall+toilet, with a hamper and also for emergencies. Footprint is slightly deeper on the left, but smaller on the right, square so you can add a roof similar to the old cottage? In the old house: Master bedroom with ensuite and closet area. Lounge room with a hopefully marvelous fireplace. Old front door stays the same from the outside, but unused. Maybe open up the ceilings and insulate the roof, so you'll have a vaulted ceiling with beams (all depends on what is allowed and how it looks in there). Haven't drawn in many windows, just imagine they are right where they need to be.

Hi Fattyma, The cupboard itself does not look dated, if it is in good condition you can only update the benchtop with a lighter stone ( for eg the Caesarstone® Frosty Carrina) and replace the splashback with a colour that goes with the rest of your house colour scheme. However, if your cabinet is actually two pieces that can be separated, you could alternatively create more symmetry by placing the fridge centrally in between them. I would place the cabinets flush against the walls, leaving an equal gap around each side of the fridge. Consider cutting the skirting board to make them truly flush for a built in look (or alternatively use a thin filler piece painted to match.) Then you would need two boards… one atop the cabinets wall to wall, and a shorter one along the top of the fridge that goes cabinet to cabinet.

Hi Jodi - wonder if you went with the Wilsonart Concrete kitchen benchtop? I am keen to use but wonder how the rough service stays/keeps clean. cheers

Hi Linda, no we didn't and mainly because we didn't want the square finished edge. Apparently it can't be rounded that little bit.
