Rug advice for living room

Please can I ask some advice on what kind of rug to get for this side of the room? I will be changing the sofa to two 2 seaters in navy.

I love that triangle one. Feel that it works well with the straight lines of the sofa and the fireplace

I like both rugs but I think the blue rug is too much blue? I would offer to do this myself but after downloading photoshop yesterday didn’t have a very successful first attempt! Anyway I’m just wondering if the geometric pattern fights with the parquet just a little? Having said that the difference in tones in the floor I’ve attached is more marked than yours

Chesterfield and contemporary are two completely different styles. The ornateness and detailing of the Chesterfield would make the modern stuff look bland, and the modern sleekness would make the Chesterfield look overly busy and fussy. I'll never say never but it is hard to see how these two ideas, as exemplified by your two wildly divergent sofas, could co-exist successfully. How about keeping the glassy red leather idea, but finding it in a sleek modern sofa with no tufting and squarer lines? Or keep the red Chesterfield, lose the gray sofa, and find updated transitional chairs in mid-gray modern tweed?

Hi Paul. I think they work as the colours are soft. I would swap the tartan and chevron cushion around though on the love seat and also add a solid colour cushion. Why not try both of the sofas at right angles to the fire with the loveseat opposite the fire so you can hang the tv above that. Pull the sofa away from the bay and put the console table behind it with a table lamp etc, If you're wanting to add colour I'd go for a shade of purple for a textured rug then maybe add a couple of yellow accessories which work reallywell with purple. If the mirror fits (?) I'd hang it over the fire, if not on the wall opposite the window.

Hi Kate. It looks a nice room. You only have a couple of pics in your ideabook so there's not much to go on in terms of style and colour. Maybe go for something like the first pic however with a pale grey paint with a blue/lavender undertone on the walls (which your sofas appear to have) and also paint the radiators the same colour. You don't mention if you need privacy, if not, I'd go for Roman blinds hung outside the recess in the wall colour to make the room feel bigger/taller. Similar to the pic id add navy, white and deep mauve cushions and a throw mixing texture (include some velvet!) and pattern. If you add brass for lamps etc it will add warmth in addition to some green for a plant and flowers for the coffee table. This may be a no no (!) but a light grey cowhide rug may work (without markings) to avoid rug "rules". I also like the panelling in the first pic and you could use wallpaper panelling on one wall to the same effect if you're on a budget. The last 2 pics are just really showing how a cowhide rug and panelling could work in an elegant scheme with industrial touches. Depending on layout I might remove the shelves and add a huge mirror over the dining table although ideally it would be on the long wall to make the room feel wider. Dining tables do look good against the back of sofas which may potentially (!) work if your sofas were opposite each other on the short walls and perhaps the door opened the other way but then I'm not sure where the tv would go!

Room plan and photo's definitely. If the fireplace is in the middle, then that's the focal point, so maybe the sofa could go opposite ( or is the door in the way? )
