What do you never leave the house without?
Comments (33)House keys and like OnePlan, car keys as I also live in the middle of nowhere plus wallet. I have emergency supplies in my car, should I ever get stuck, e.g. in the snow, floods and a bottle of water and pens and paper. I have the luxury of not using a mobile phone as there is no mobile signal within an 8 mile radius of where I live and at work it is patchy at best. No-one believes me, that I do not have a mobile - but it is incredibly liberating....See Morewhere do you store what in your kitchen?
Comments (2)like keeping colourful kitchen items like olive oils and fruits out on display, and like hanging the odd utensil or two! Otherwise, I'm guilty of shoving a lot of things in the cupboard......See MoreDo you put your shoes in the washing machine?
Comments (12)I didn't consider putting my (rarely used) trainers (sneakers, running shoes) in the washing machine until I started working part-time in a London pub many many years ago. As well as being a busy neighbourhood pub it was also back when smoking was allowed inside (seems centuries ago now!) so I would come home, walk straight to the washing machine, take everything off from head to toe and put it all straight into the machine (shoes in a bag) before jumping into the shower ... everything, including me and my hair smelt like beer and cigarette smoke ... urk! It wasn't so noticeable while in the pub, although as a non-smoker not ideal, but once I walked outside into the 'fresh' air and especially once I was home the smell was so strong! That was over 20 years ago and only did it for a couple of years, and it was fun but since then rarely need to wash my trainers just air them out very well, or wash the insides but would pop them in the machine if necessary. Would not put shoes in with other things esp. clothes and there is a specific setting on my machine for them....See MoreGot a back kitchen? What do you do in it? What's in the front?
Comments (10)@James Neal thank you for your comments. I'm definitely wanting to avoid "causing any problems with planning departments as it flags up the possibility of the house being split into 2 residencies." The planning application should be going in next week and then we wait 8 - 12 weeks...... There will be a generous utility and office in the basement and there will be another office in the front reception room, I'm not looking to add more reception rooms and my kids have decent sized rooms for toys and entertaining. It's getting this kitchen right which is proving tricky, the new extension isn't full width as it would impact the basement plans (push back the garden and have a lower terrace). I've attached the old floor plan to provide more detail. Maybe I need to start talking to kitchen designers and see what the space would give me....See MoreJ C
