..same flooring throughout downstairs ??...or maybe not !?! Help !
Firstly, many thanks for help with my last design delema...! ...next up....We tiled our hall floor with a porcelain tile 4 years ago (see pic) which is very practical !!
We are now extending the rear of our house to include an open plan dining room and kitchen.
I would like a light coloured floor in the new area as it tends to be dull and is north facing.
Is it going to be too much to continue the hall flooring throughout the extension ? The area to be tiled is 63 msq. I have attached the plans and a pic of the kitchen design so far....

6 years agoI would normally go for the same flooring everywhere, however, on this occasion i voted no because the kitchen doors don't go well with the flooring. White and Cream just don't look great together. If that's the actual kitchen , then a wood effect tile, LVT etc would look a lot better with it.
Or if it's not the actual kitchen then go for richer colour kitchen door.

6 years agoThanks for your reply...! Really interesting pictures... I should have said in my first post that the floating shelves are going to be walnut as our dining table and dresser are dark wood. The bar stools are going to be something like this... (but maybe in ivory/beige)...?

Comments (10)Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it. I'm liking the idea of a mirror behind the toilet, I'm seeing a bit of a mirrored wall effect coming here. I'm also considering rehanging the door (thanks for the suggestion) so it opens into the utility. That would make a big difference. I like the idea of a cabinet under the sink (great way to hide pipes) but I've been worried it would make the space too cramped. Plus with the door opening into the room the sink and cabinet would take a lot of the space a person would use stepping in and shutting the door. Good news is it's actually a wooden doorframe there rather than the horrible metal frames we have in the rest of the house. I'm currently thinking of half tiling with either paint or paper (great idea thanks) on the top of the walls. Just not sure of colours. Flooring I'm thinking of something dark with warm undertones as that's what I'm going within the kitchen (North facing room plus cream cabinets I thought warm tones would be nicer). Comments (302)Hello folks! I haven't disappeared, just had whooping cough (yes, seriously!) with a garnish of gastric flu and torn muscles from coughing fits. So that has severely impeded our efforts (hubby's had it too, and it lasts around 3mths so we're not out of the woods yet!) with our new house (which I now describe as semi-derelict before we bought it) and so had no time/mental energy to properly get updated on what's been happening with you guys. Monica, I'm so sorry to hear what u'v been through, with the RTA & the cowboy tiling / wallpapering on top! (& work always picks worst times to intensify - I just started on a Task Force this week, when shd really still be on sick leave). I mean, a marker?! Seriously?! Isn't it common knowledge / common sense to use a lightly applied pencil? Sounds like u r doing best thing by looking at it as a learning experience. Still, he deserves an honest review somewhere. U guys inspire me. :-) Thinking of starting a thread on our living room, it's the most 'civilised' room of the house so far, but I didn't take the north-facing position into account when I decided on a colour scheme of turquoise, grey and lime. (Doh!) So far I've made some headway on a concept I'm excited by, but it needs some tweaking so it doesn't feel 'cold' with the blue tone of the natural light. Comments (35)I got prices from a local supplier based on carpet/vinyl/laminate being around the £10-12 psqm price and they were all similar prices ie £280-300 inc fitting. However if I get laminate then of course my OH will expect me to fit it to save money, lol. I’m not sure I can face the extra job and vinyl is a no no now due to the floor not being quite level without boarding over it again (more cost) So if I do go for a carpet - being a downstairs room and probably having sports equipment in it as well (so likely to get walked on with shoes etc) .. should I go for the cheaper textured style they put in rentals?? I like the idea of texture and slight pattern and not fluffy carpet due to me having bad dust allergies... Any recommendations on what looks good and isn’t too pricey? Comments (5)I'd always advise to determine what matters to you more. Would you rather that the bathroom looks just as you would like it to by using the teak/oak wood so when you close the door in the room it is it's own special space? Or, would you much prefer to have a flowing floor throughout your home? Personally, when it comes to bathrooms, as it is generally a room that has it's door closed - I wouldn't compromise design and feel in that room just to have the floor coverings matching throughout ...
