Comments (9)You can buy all the missing bits on Ebay or in fact all over the web. I've done it several times when installing fireplaces, working or non-working. Just measure up your hole and find bits that fit in it. Comments (4)There would most likely originally have been a damper - a cast iron plate that fits the hole and can be flapped back and forth to open or close the chimney. Many fireplaces have lost theirs, sounds like yours have too? If so, you could look for a replacement but it may be tricky to find one that fits. Alternatively you could look into chimney sheep or chimney balloons which are designed to block off chimneys - though you’d have to consider whether these would be cat proof!...See MoreWhat to do with my cast iron fire place
Comments (7)I don't think the wooden surround is original to the tiles (though both could be unoriginal to the house) The black one would look good with a nice metallic paint like bronze and ditching the wood beading round the edge. Or kept in a matt black and dry brushed with a metallic paint to pick out the detail The tile one needs either a) completely removing if you don't like it b) painting the surround and maybe adding a little touch of 1/4 round beading to try and harmonise it with the tiles c) a new surround to match the tiles....See MoreMichael Dooley
