Please help me with colours and flooring
Comments (3)Hi, Taking into consideration all the elements in your room I would advise you to go with the lighter, golden-toned wood flooring option. Bear in mind wood is a light reflecting finish (as opposed to a carpet in an equivalent tone which is more light absorbing) so will create a more spacious feel to the room. Furthermore the lovely varied tones and graining in the samples you have allow for it to blend subtly with your table and chairs. In contrast a straight cut plank with more even tones would results in a clash of woods as you mentioned. The doors are indeed very yellow in tone; ideally if you could, I would advise changing the stain colour - if they are hardwood strip them back and apply a clear varnish or wax . If they are laminate or veneered they unfortunately can't be stripped back but you could paint them a neutral paint colour to break them from the other wood in the room and allow them to blend better with the wall paint colour. Regarding the wall paint colour, if you do go ahead with the blonder toned wood flooring you could take a small step away from warm yellow based neutrals to a cooler grey or green based neutral paint colour to introduce a subtle contrast on the wall surfaces. A subtle "hint" staying in the neutral range, not a definitive grey or green! I would advise avoiding any neutral with a pink or yellow based tint due to there being a lot of warm tones already in the room - in the floor, the dining table the chairs and the sofa fabric....See MoreWhat colour walls and wood flooring ?

Comments (2)Hello Precious! I used Natural Hessian as the base colour all over my previous house. I had the standard new build light beige carpet throughout so a light coloured wood would work well. I personally think the grey wood wouldn't work well with it. As for accents, I used a bright duck egg blue in the bedroom, a pea green in the living room and used dulux cookie dough as a natural compliment in the hallway and landing. If you have any paint left, a good trick is to paint an a3 piece of paper and take it shopping with you. Test your favourite colours and floorings against it. A small colour swatch is pretty useless for doing this. Don't be shy to ask for samples to take home and try in situ. I found Natural Hessian didn't half change coulur in different lights and different rooms. Have fun and good luck....See Morewood flooring and doors
Comments (11)Your lights in the pic look very similar to my 3D kitchen picture and I'm getting a Leicht kitchen too , is your kitchen from an independent shop in Ealing :-) ? I am also having the same worktop! I was going to go with a dark wood on the island as well called 'Calypo' but I had already decided on my wood flooring ( very light oak - Scandinavian look ) and they didn't go together, so changed my colour to white. Best thing to do is to take your wood floor sample into the kitchen showroom. See if the shop selling the floors can lend you a big piece of the floor ( rather than a very small sample ) and then you put them against each other and get the opinion of your kitchen designer too....See MoreE D
