Comments (4)PS are you absolutely sure you can't ditch the carpet? For what you'd spend on covering the sofa you could get an inexpensive beige or tan carpet and immediately lighten up, simplify, and elevate the space. As soon as I saw the photo I knew you were in England! I don't know why there are so many carpets like this over there. I have seen apartments in England where there were two or three different patterned carpets in the same place! It's enough to make your head spin... I watch BBC Canada a lot and I am addicted to the renovation shows, especially the ones where they are fixing up homes to sell, and I've seen over and over how they've ripped up carpeting like this and replaced them with a simple plain style. When it's done it looks like a million bucks (or pounds, excuse me!)... If you did replace the rug, you could keep your sofa 'as is' and paint the walls Farrow & Ball PIGEON No. 25, which is a lovely green-gray. If you go very green it's going to look too Christmassy (red and green) so I suggest this colour which incorporates a grey tone that's very current these days. It would look very fresh with white woodwork. This paint colour would look interesting with the beige/tan carpet too. I have attached two photos showing neutral sisal-look carpeting and a photo of a room painted PIGEON....See MoreIs Magnolia paint bland or beautiful?
Comments (96)@colourhappy I totally agree. Like everyone else I can’t help being influenced by trends but I really try to choose things that are not too ‘of the moment’. Like those enormous wall clocks someone else mentioned. They look fab but they are definitely a trend that will define this period. Eventually there will be a lot of them in landfill. Our trusty magnolia paint saw us through 10 years of family life in our old house with 3 young children. It was super easy to slap a bit more on if it ever got dirty - who am I kidding, I mean WHEN it got dirty. It didn’t clash with the wood effect floors which I think many of the currently popular grey or yellow colours would have. I suppose I’m also lucky that I’ve not spent much time as a renter so I don’t have the frustration of having magnolia forced on me. I don’t remember it being a thing in the 80s either. I DO remember the Dulux ‘hints’ range from then though: Apple white, orchid white etc. My Mum loved those....See MoreIs this dining table set too much for a smallish room?
Comments (4)The pic with the colours chairs works so well as they are the only coloured things in that set - if you want them to be as stunning - I think you need to emulate the set - ie white walls and white floor ! If you go with the darker wood floor that you are considering - personally - I think it may loose a little of its Wow ! ( will look fantastic with white plates !! And the three colours used as serving or side dishes /napkins etc )...See MoreCream room bland?
Comments (10)You can use different shades of cream as well as different textures. Yocould even mix creams and whites as long as there's a good balance. I would also add some patterns which could be in wallpaper, rug, cushions etc. Add mirrors and some statement lighting (maybe with some metallic). You could also add plants or flowers ( maybe try and get some really good artifical ones rather than have a weekly expense). To balance against the dark walnut maybe some black lampshades and framed art or curtain poles is that too much colour?...See MoreJenna Freeman
