colour scheme help for open plan kitchen/living area
Comments (3)It's an awkward one as a lot of the kitchen is in the dining area, and the space that you don't want to have a table & chairs is opposite the sink. You could put one of the armchairs there. Keep the sofa where one is at the moment. You could go for a darker cognac leather or dark grey. Grey tones go with the brick. A nice bright rug would look good, but I'd keep the walls light and airy as they are now. In order to place something like this arrangement, you will have an armchair near to the sink. Although the kitchen is lovely...........If you ever have the budget, i'd consider moving the kitchen around. Change the island possibly for a smaller one and turn the side run of units along the left hand wall to across the room for 'U' Shape, giving you a much better sofa / lounge area....See Morecolour scheme help for kitchen/diner
Comments (12)I had my kitchen by Howdens and I noticed silly things like cupboards hinged the wrong way or odd sized wall cupboards ie. left had was 450 and right hand was 500. Luckily I'm a designer so picked up on it so I'd advise double checking all sizes and hinges etc. I would definitely start neutral and see how you feel once everything is in. Painting a wall takes no time at all and better to get it right than try do everything at once. I have a blackboard wall in my kitchen, everyone thought I was mad doing a wall in black but it looks very effective and doesn't effect the light at all....See MoreKitchen colour scheme..help!
Comments (11)Yes Jonathan, it’s really annoying. They won’t do any amendments to the layout despite it being impractical and dangerous in parts (cupboards directly behind doors that swing back etc) So do you think the light worktop in the bottom picture or the grey worktop in the top picture? I’m just worried about the overall feeling being dark as it’s not a bright room (neighbours brick wall 1m from window!) I really prefer the light one, but I can’t convince myself it won’t look weird with the white tiles......See Morecolour scheme help
Comments (10)@ Matthew - personally I would change the window cills as well as this is a relatively easy fix and makes a big difference; are your windows PVC or wood? Painting the porch overhang would make a big difference as well and perhaps a future option is to build a porch with sloped roof, which will also help the house look less "brutal" :-) I would consider using a colour to the paint rather than white and if you are replacing the windows then move away from white to make the house more inviting. This would also involve painting the soffit boards on the eaves, but again I think the effect would be a good one. Using a natural wood for the slats is an option but it all depends upon how much you have to spend as hardwood would be best. You could consider using a composite material for this as there are some great options available these days....See Morebigreader
