Struggling with kitchen lighting, help please?
Comments (11)Hi. Can you just clarify what you mean by original? Do you mean a one off piece or an antique? What is your budget? I would probably go for something either vintage, industriał or victorian (is the table victorian??) in style then add accessories to mix the old and new such as a contemporary chair, old chopping board, antique copper pans, old scales, enamel storage etc. I know it sounds odd but people are also starting to use table lamps in kitchens ( some do look odd!), but until you can afford extra lighting this could be an option at the end of the counter and/or Tom's option of floor lamps. You could also look at a triple pendant which will give you more light or you can get the multiple ones that run off one fixture but I'm not that convinced for your room. Also a mirror over your radiator may help. Do you have any cabinet lighting? You can pick up the ones that I think just stick on from diy stores quite cheaply...See MoreStruggling with part of kitchen layout - which would you choose?
Comments (9)@Leesha- the illustrations shows side by side ovens that do not match. Some manufacturers now make appliances designed to sit side by side where the control panels are the same size and the handles are at the same height so even if you put a single oven with a steam oven side by side with a coffee maker, microwave and warming drawer the horizontal lines will line up. Look up Seimens ovens to see some images...See MoreHelp with open plan kitchen wall colour please as I’m struggling!
Comments (25)I would have poo poo’d this idea before as I’d wonder what the point was, but make your self a mood board using the colours roughly in the same ratios. Are you planning on having some artwork as this may be the lynchpin that helps it hang all together. Pulling colours through from that will help the scheme. Tonal can be soft and soothing but needs layering up with texture to create a cohesive scheme. Alternatively pops of bright colour can look amazing and your kitchen is lovely and bright with good bones. What is the rest of your house like, and what is your style?...See MoreStruggling planning my kitchen dining room
Comments (9)If you like the kitchen where it is then why go to so much expense to move it? Do you have any problems bending down to lift something in and out of an oven? If not then perhaps invest in a hob with an oven underneath. This takes care of where to put the oven. You have a big fridge freezer that disrupts the flow into the dining room. Have you considered having an under counter fridge with a separate freezer in that big utility. Those two big cupboards in the dining room may be valuable storage space but like the fridge freezer they disrupt flow. Could you replace them with shallow floor to ceiling cupboards (to the depth of the short wall) running the full length of that wall? You could even continue it into where the fridge freezer is now. You would retain the same amount of storage space, perhaps even gain some, but it would look and function better. If they matched the kitchen cupboards they would give a more cohesive and expansive feel to the rooms. I would leave the peninsula as it is. It will visually recede because you will have more room to move around. You could bring the utility door forward in line with the kitchen units and finish it to match the cupboard doors adding to that expansive and cohesive feel....See MoreEzra Hill
