Nice! I don't particularly like black gloss kitchen but I really do like black matt kitchens. We're in the process of doing our kitchen showroom after a move of premises and one of the kitchens is a black one plus on the island is graphite which is a very dark grey. Both look fabulous. I think it's going to be a very 'in' colour.

Love matt black teamed with wood or marble/quartz. Detest shiny gloss - tacky and too footballers wives imho.

It didn't come over as 'traditional' to me but I agree clients like a mix. I would have perhaps put a flat ceiling extractor in a boxing to let the kitchen shine through rather than the prominent chimney. I love the grey units but maybe move the island back as it seemed too close to the sink and if 2 people are working in the kitchen it could be a bit cosy, particularly if the dishwasher door was down! I think the worktops are lovely if creating a modern look, but maybe a darker shade would look more traditional. The important thing is the clients tastes and as it looks good, so I am sure they must love it.

I adore red, it's my favourite colour by far and is all over my wardrobe. I even have red glasses, it's kind of a signature thing of mine. When my partner and I recently bought our first flat we had to redecorate it all very quickly and went with quite neutral shades throughout: oak wood, white, black and grey. We then added touches of red in kitchen accessories, curtains, cushions and finally red carpet in the corridor, staircase and landing to tie it altogether. The only rooms which have no red are our 2 bathrooms as I like them better crisp and neutral.

The lack of bench space, and I'm not sure which category of the poll that fits into. Layout maybe, since we'll need to move things around to make it work. Our kitchen is enormous, but it's all storage - one whole wall is floor to ceiling pantry-style cabinets. On the other all the stovetop and the sink take up a full half of the bench top, so there is just enough room for one chopping board and bowl on what's left when you are cooking. The crazy thing is, it's not even a tiny galley kitchen, but the space in between the two walls is only just big enough to squeeze an island in, so we are trying to decide between being cramped, or knocking down walls and completely remodelling. Can't quite bring ourselves to pull the trigger on the latter, though, as all the cabinets and cupboard are in great shape.

The Italians have been producing some totally amazing black/graphite/verydark grey Kitchens for years ... I’ve seen them crop in German and Dutch company’s designs too in the last few years - glad the Brits are finally getting in on the action too ! It’s about time !

Our kitchen is black - or rather, the units are, and we have a dark, marble-effect Amtico floor - we will change both when we can.

The problem - for me - with black is - it gobbles up light, and to compensate for that, you must plan the lighting accordingly. When we moved in, the kitchen lighting consisted of two very bright pendants and half a dozen not very fetching, not very well thought out, under-wall-cupboard downlights; we changed the existing lights, and augmented them with led strips under - and on top of - the wall-cupboards. We also added two table-lamps and an uplighter; that, and a repaint of walls (from bright orange to F&B Cornforth White) and changing the cupboard handles will have to suffice for the moment.

So my advice if you are planning a back kitchen is - lighting is at least as important as any other aspect of design. I'm sure the pros on houzz can offer better advice on that than can I.

Great point re daylight /lighting - you can either put black Kitchens in dark areas and then add dramatic lighting - or utilise a very light and airy space ( but I think that’s a bit of a waste - light and airy spaces suit light and airy colours better IMO)
