Front door dilemma!!
Comments (4)Personally i love wood doors and despise plastic etc. However, our bench joiner who works in wood highly recommended composite over wood because of the movement real wood goes through. Just be aware if you choose wood that it might need some adjusting and a lot of looking after. We ended up with composite but our house is 60's so it suits it....See MoreAdvice on balancing out the front of my house
Comments (17)I think two side panels on the front door might make that window less symmetrical. If you went for one panel on the same side of the existing window, it would keep the upstairs bathroom window more central. I agree with the other advice to make the new bedroom window slightly larger too and I love the advice to put a porch across the feont door and existing bay. But that's just me! Comments (13)Good afternoon everyone! We are blown away by the amazing response we have had from this community, thank you everyone for your feedback. We are especially grateful to Jonathan for his valuable feedback.. the idea is genius and makes so much sense! Thank you so much Jonathan for taking out the time to help us! I have never seen my husband so impressed by an idea so much!! I have attached a couple more photos showing view of the garage from the front of the house along with the entrance gate itself into the property. I have also attached a copy of our floor plan. We would really appreciate your thoughts on what we could to with the garage and front exterior in terms of: Garage walls - What do you think about the brick work? Worth keeping, or should we clad? Garage roof - We currently have an unsightly metal sheet. We don’t want to fully rebuild but we’ve seen light weight roofing for garages which look like tiling. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Front exterior - We’re looking to improve kerb appeal of the house from the front, any ideas welcome (cladding, paint, stone work?) Windows - these are the original single pane windows which unfortunately come with poor insulation. Any thoughts on what to do for those? Further to the front patio suggestion, is it worth installing an entrance which leads straight into the kitchen through the current ‘Study’? See floor plan. (We are planning to extend the current kitchen by a further 2.5m towards the rear garden). Any ideas, suggestions and comments will be really appreciated, thank you for your help!...See MoreComposite door with UPVC sidelights - will I hate it?
Comments (13)Morning! We went with a chartwell green wood effect composite door which looks quite authentic itself. We had an original leaded window on the side of the porch which nobody could see which the door people restored and put into secure double glazing panels for the door and sidelights. The UPVC shiny white frame, I don't like so much. But as you see there is a lot of frame so it would have been a lot more money to do in in green frame. It is also safe and keeps the house warmer. On balance, I'm happy with the compromise. Still have plans down the line to redo the front garden (well make it into a garden and not a breezeblock parking lot for multiple cars we don't own - but the previous owners with older children did). Thinking Med garden with low level fencing in charteuse green, lavenders, beige gravel etc. Maybe cypress or olive trees left and right of the door. I'm sure that will improve the whole frontage and take emphasis away from the frame....See MoreAngie
