Tell us your best or worst neighbour stories!
Comments (34)The shortest time we lived in a house was 18 months - the neighbour turned out to have serious psychological problems, he took against me within weeks, pushing notes through letterbox saying I was a female she devil and deserved to burn in hell etc, etc. and quoting bible stuff. I had not even seen or spoken to him at that point, just held perfectly normal conversations with his partner. Then it was pounding on our adjoining walls at night, digging up the plumbing pipes behind our houses (he didn't want polluted excrement through the pipes?!) going out to his work leaving the Magic flute playing at full blast (echoes an episode of Morse?) until we had to call the police. The culmination was a throwing bricks at our french windows standing in our garden, apparently attempting to stone me (something biblical again?). We couldn't sell the house to anyone but a landlord who "took it off our hands" at a price below what we paid for it. I felt guilty as he continued to harass various renters afterwards, but eventually they moved out, not before breaking the legs of the last occupant next door. The police were very politically correct throughout and of course I felt immensely sorry for his condition, but have to wonder about care in the community as opposed to the days when people with serious psychiatric problems were locked up for their own good and the good of others. What do people think on that score??...See MorePuppy proof rug
Comments (35)Hi, I love this room and Hague Blue is one of my favourites! I would suggest a flat weave rug for this space. Flat weaves tend to be easier to clean as the dirt doesn't as easily get into the fibers, and they don't pull by little paws so easily. They have worked really well in my own home with three small children (and two dogs we often dog sit)! With regards to flat weave/dhurries there are lots of options. Safavieh has some great dhurrie rugs at a reasonable price point on Wayfair, so that might be worth exploring. West Elm has some wonderful kilim style rugs that would suit your modern space quite well too, and I believe many are on sale at the moment. Another suggestion might be a natural fiber rug like a jute with a cotton border which can be ordered online by the sq ft very easily. Both the internal rug and the outer border come in a variety of shades and materials to suit your budget and taste. A final suggestion would be to look at some indoor/outdoor options which are made from a really soft plastic (many you wouldn't even know are plastic) and can literally be hosed off in the garden. Check out Dash and Albert. Otherwise, have the white vinegar ready and enjoy your puppy! Hope this was helpful!...See MoreAre there any dog-lovers here?
Comments (125)Hi moiraford, I keep an eye on The Gables, but they don't seem to have sighthounds very often, or they don't update their website regularly. Seems to be mainly Staffies. Thanks for the comment though, nice to know that there is someone else from Plymouth on here...See More2 bed apt in central London or 4 bed town house in suburbs?
Comments (39)Moved from a lovely 2 bed flat in Ealing to a 3 bed Victorian mid terrace in Hitchin in North Herts on the train line into Kings Cross/Moorgate in 2011. I struggled to leave the city but our town is v lovely and unique for commuterville in that there is a lots on offer on our high street both for shopping and entertainment. That said, we've sold to move a little closer to a big city again. Moving 10 miles north of Brighton later this year. I love our house and the space but after 5 years I feel I need more than there is on offer here and once we leave this town, it's a 30 minute (usually more) drive minimum to get anywhere with more on offer. I'm a city girl through and through and though I can no longer afford to live in one, I need to be close to one. Space is great, but think of what you do with your spare time, though it's pretty fab for where we are, I feel I outgrew this town of 35,000 people in less than 5 years....See MorePeaceOfHome
