Cybele is not a velvet and the shapes are very similar to what you had in mind. Should Romo have a colour way that goes with your scheme ask for a sample. Try to visualise it in your room. Depending what you are trying to achieve (style wise), what you have around it and the size of the window, you could make it work. I have seen it in Roman blinds in a bedroom and it looked lovely

Hi Laura, Going along the lines of other suggestions, you could add some interest by using a trim down the leading edge of the curtains. Use the neutral green as the main fabric and then a trim like this... https://www.fabricsandpapers.com/8509-lezarde-gimp-fuchsia It would create interest, and tie in the chair to the room. I tend to prefer long curtains personally as well but if you think that brushing past them would annoy you then I’d go for short. Roman blinds could be an option as well if they will tuck under the pelmet, I do feel that you’d need a double layer approach with perhaps a roller blind in the window to block out the light tho. You could always ask the curtain maker to include curtain weights in the bottom. This would help to make the fabric hang a lot straighter. Of course this does depend on what type of fabric you choose. A thick woven wool or chenille for example (something you might use for cushions or upholstery) will have a lot more bulk and stick out more. Synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester tend to drape better because of the smooth weave. I think long curtains would be lovely. What an elegant room. A metal rail would be good, forget about those ghastly plastic ones that eventually break. I had a simple white metal rail fitted in my bay window. I actually bought it in a high quality curtain shop and they fitted it for me. Cost £200 for rail, fitting and open/close cords - rail is 12’ long. There are a huge array of fabrics on the market but I love a linen mix, hangs beautifully. You could go plain in a colour similar to your walls, or a pattern. It depends what else is in the room as to how patterned you go! Do you like florals, or geometric?
