help please! walls, ceiling colour

hello. any tips please on best way to start choosen the colour (walls, ceiling) for every division (bathrooms too). my biggest problem is that I have billions ideas and can't make my mind up and organized. thanks a million

Hi, oh its so hard to get started isn't it when you have so many ideas!

I always find the best way is to make a little mood board for each room. put your ideas that you have onto paper for each room, and take it from there. decide what is most important for each room, for example have you found a sofa you love for the living room or already have an existing one? if so, take a sample of that fabric and find a paint that works with that, and the sofa becomes your key piece to make your decisions around for that room. you may have a painting you love or some fabric you want your curtains to be made from, and you can use these to make your paint choices.

You also need to decide if you want the same colour throughout the property or if you want each room to have its own style. either way, its important to make sure they flow because you can make the property look a bit to haphazard if there isn't some cohesion.

Just really think about what you love and what you want to achieve for your look, and look at ideas on pinterest and instagram.

Failing that, call in an interior designer to help with some ideas! I would be happy to help if you get to that stage. I provide a low cost online service or full project packages too.

Hi Alexandra, in response to you plead for help!

Choosing wall and ceiling colours is always difficult! My advice is to firstly decide if you like neutral or bold colours. Tester pots are always a good idea if you have a number of colours in mind - a lot of my clients like a colour on the chart but when this is tested the colours are sometimes different once painted on the wall.

It is essential to take note of the colours already in the room that you are considering the wall and ceiling colours for - furniture, soft furnishings etc. If you want to create more space and light within a room you should probably consider a lighter/neutral colour. Mirrors are also a very good way to reflect light. Please do message me if you would like specific advice on a room - I hope this helps. Good luck! Georgie

Thanks :) Hopefully worktops should be done within the next week. My husbands done everything himself plus he's never done anything like this before, hence why it's taking so long! but he's a perfectionist so I don't mind. No sofa yet, still unsure of what to go with plus I keep changing my mind on blinds lol. I'm so indecisive! :)

Those tiles are stunning. Now I know you’ve got the paint, but I would have gone paler, simply because the tiles are so beautiful and I wouldn’t want to have anything that detracts from them. if It is too dark, you could always add some of the green to plain white paint and mix well. Make sure you mix enough for the whole area! I’ve done that before and it worked out well. Good luck!

I think the most important thing is to get some tiles to work with the units. The more similar they are then they need to be 'right' if that makes sense. I would paint some paint onto s bit of board and take it to the tile shops to match them in situ. If you want something different then there are lots of options, it depends on what sort of thing you like. It might be worth buying a current fan deck from F&B to match the unit colour accurately.

I think the first thing you should do is to set up some ideabooks on Houzz. Look through the photos on this site and save any that appeal to you. If you click for more info on a photo, quite often there will be more photos of a project so you can get an idea of how other people have done their whole houses. Some people have a harmonious look throughout, while others will have different looks in each room, it’s all down to personal preference. If you then go back to your ideabooks you will hopefully be able to decide what look you want to go for and it will be easier to narrow down your choices for paint etc.

Magazines, Houzz, Pinterest or even Google images are all great places to start curating a range of interior ideas! You might find ideas you haven't considered before or colours you would never have dreamed of painting on your walls!

It is important to have one theme and stick with it so the room flows nicely altogether. Many stay with a neutral colour scheme as it is the most transitional and add bright accents to create eyecatching statements that you can change up when bored!
